Auto brightness not working on iPhone 5?

On the iPhone 5 - In the settings, when flicking the auto brightness on/off the screen shows no change in brightness - whether in a completely dark room or with the lights on etc. My iPhone 4 has been updated to IOS6 and seems to be working normally (brightness auto adjusts in all situations).

Anyone else have this problem of the auto brightness not working?

iPhone 5, iOS 6

I tested the auto brightness on the iPhone 5 in bright daylight and the slider did adjust itself slowly (moving from inside to outside the house). I can only assume that the auto brightness works differently with the 5 - gradual change as opposed to the instant brightness/dimming of the iPhone4. At least we know that it is definitely software related, and therefore can be adjusted in future software updates.

Yup same issue here. It's a little annoying and I see NO change what so ever from low light to bright situations. Sub. to this post for an answer.

EDIT: Did some messing around with it and it seems that it is just REALLY slow to respond at all. It will however move slightly when placed in extreme differences. So hopefully Apple comes out with 6.1 real fast for a few things like the Wifi/Maps/Lighting issues. Cheers

After some further research it appears that in iOS 6, auto brightness can remember preffered brightness setting dependnt on ambient light settings.

For example with auto brightness on, if you are in side with moderate light and you feel the screen is too dark you can increase the slider to an amount you are happy with and it will remember that brightness for that ambient light setting. Then you can go out side and set another pre-determined brightness for lotsof light and the phone will remember.

SO, if you were in a dark room and then turned auto brightness on and maxed out the slider it will remember that in dark setting s you like brightness full hence no auto brightness.

Ok so I've done a bit on this too as more testing the better. I set my brightness low for dark conditions ie at night in bed. Switching the light on and holding it up it'll gradually get brighter up to its brightest.

Then when turning the light off its gradually got darker. This was in the situation where I didn't lock the phone.

I then applied light to the sensor and the phone lit back up again. I then locked the phone and turned out all the lights. When I entered my pass code it stayed at the lower brightness. So it just seems that you the previous post is true in that iOS 6 remembers what light you like for the current situation.
