This has never been possible via bluetooth. This is done on purpose. The only way people were ever able to pair their iPhones to an apple computer has been with a jailbroken phone or via tethering.

Though, new features now allow you to pair them over wi-fi.

It states in my personal hotspot options that I can connect to my computer using Bluetooth. There are three different options: over wifi, bluetooth and via usb. However, my phone will not pair with my computer like it states in the instructions on my iPhone.

    1. Do you have a hotspot set up and active on your iPhone and set up on your computer? What kind of computer?

    2. Why are you bothering with Bluetooth to connect with your iPhone hotspot? Use WiFi instead.

    1. The point is not 'why are you not using alternatives', the point is Bluetooth on iPhone 5 isn't working/compatible!

    2. Does anyone from Apple reads this topic? Does anyone from Apple cares about this issue AND try and resolve it?

    No, they don't.

This is primarily a user-to-user forum, meaning it's only fellow Apple users here aside from the moderators who keep the forums flowing.

Well I stand corrected. However, this is still not the typical bluetooth connection people seek to pair with a computer. Most people would like to be able to connect via bluetooth to a computer to transfer files or browse their device.

Regardless, I was able to pair my iPhone with both my iMac and MBP and set up a personal area network ("personal hotspot"). Check your network settings on your computer. I did have to turn off the wi-fi on my phone, and reset the **** thing. Turn off wi-fi on my computers... it was a hazzle. Again, I think this has to do with the way iOS filters and looks for connections pointing to software issues and not hardware.

Seriously though, why bother with this. Use the wi-fi or USB cable.

I had a first gen iPod Touch paired totally fine with my Beats Wireless headphones.

Now I purchased a 5th gen iPod Touch and my Beats Wireless keep dropping connection and songs skip.  I have tried re-paring the devices.  Doing complete shut downs to no avail.

    Way to go apple!!!

Same thing here, month old cr-v, iphone4 connected to bluetooth with no problems. My new iphone5 i paired it with a Parrot bluetooth in another vehicle, no problems. When I try to pair it with the cv-r, nothing. Apple really do need to get a fix for this issue, QUICKLY..

Try Settings > General > Accessibility > Incoming Calls and change it from Default to Headset. Un-pair and re-pair the phone in the vehicle. This worked for me in pairing iPhone5 in 2013 CRV. Good luck.

You're welcome. I read this in a hidden post somewhere a while back and it worked after weeks of trying all sorts of things. I thought I'd reshare and I'm glad it worked for you

Apple support Problem report : 378492825

I paired my plantronics Explorer 395 to my Iphone 5, it works fine once until I switch the plantronics off. When I switch back on, it does not re-connect again to the Iphone. I can see the plantronics in the Bluetooth list, but it's not connected. To connect it again, I have to "forget the plantronics" and pair it again...manually...

I tried with another Iphone 5 : same issue.

I paired it with another Iphone (Iphone 4), it reconnects fine.

I tried with another bluetooth device (Ilink Audio transmitter) : same issue.

I did all possible kind of tests (asked by Apple support hotline) : complete Iphone reset...always same issue.

It seems I am not the only one in that case :

    http://store.apple.com/us/reviews/H2519VC/A/plantronics-explorer-395-bluetooth-h eadset

All that findings lead to the idea that the Iphone 5 has somehow a bluetooth compatibilty issue. But Apple Support has no proposal for that : neither offering a compatible bluetooth headset nor committing on the fact that issue will be covered in next SW/HW release.

This is absolutely offending your customer. But Apple support is clearly and consciously taking full responsibility.

So, If someone has the same issue (and some time to loose) you can call Apple Support and tell my problem report N° : 378492825. I Guess when they reach 1 million angry customer, the will correct it...or not..

Problem following, I passed with 4s on 5, I restored contents from iCloud

and pared them with my Mazda CX-5 stock bluetooth

    - now at an entering call phone lifts a tube but is audible nothing, neither me nor calling.

When switching at this moment on phone a sound source, back on phone (the sound is) and back on the car - the sound appeared.

I reset the phone settings to default, I reset to default all bluetooth in the car, changes nothing.

When I reset all contents and settings on phone to factory defaults  - the sound appeared.

I Try Settings > General > Accessibility > Incoming Calls - and nothing change.

What to do I don't know...

I have a plantronics, bose, jawbone, blueant, and three different car Bluetooth. All of them connect and disconnect just fine, with my iPhone 5. This takes us back to square one. Who's at fault? Is your phone faulty? I am not an apple fanboy either. I wish I knew why some have Bluetooth issues and some don't.
