I also purchased a  2013 Mazda CX-5 in August. I originally had the Iphone 4 and the handsfree option worked beautifully (it was actually one of the selling points that prompted me to choose that vehicle).  I then upgraded my Iphone to the 5-initially it worked alright, and then I was unable to receive incoming calls. Recently, after the newest software upgrade to the Iphone 5 I can no longer make OR receive calls.  The handsfree/bluetooth option is virtually useless to me with the Iphone 5. The odd part is that the streaming through the radio (when using Itunes) still seems to work.  Neither person on the line can hear the other when using the bluetooth feature. Very frustrating! Any work on fixing this issue Apple? I love the Iphone but am truly disappointed with this issue.

I have exact same issue. Called tech support and they offered to purchase $99!!! tech plan for 2 years. When is apple going to start at least trying to satisfy their consumers, who spend a lot of money on their products!!

You are outside of your 90 day free support window which is why they are try to sell you AppleCare, which would extend it to 2 years rather than charging for the call.

If you have the exact same problem go here: and post the details of your problem. The more information Apple's engineers can get the faster they can find a solution.

The phone is 3 months old!!! I also have warranty for 1 year, don't I? However as I've been notified since it's a tech issue I can't exchange the phone for a new one that (hopefully) would work properly as a brand new phone should. What problems related to technology are not tech problems??? Is it too much to expect to be able to use the phone for longer then 3 months? Oh, as I've been typing this message my iphone has finally found and paired with my jambox. It took me only 4 hours and wasted morning.

Guessing that you did not even so much as glance at your warranty, you get 90 days free telephone support and a 1 year warranty for manufacturing defects. AppleCare extends both to 2 years.

I have an iPhone 5 with 6.0.2 and it pairs with my jambox with no issue. It is possible you have an antenna/chipset issue. Make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and have it looked at.

I did bother to glance! If apple is only responsible for manufacturing defects that would (I assume) be aparent immideately then what's the point to have a "1 year" warranty?? Again, as I assume, the problems can appear later after seemingly working properly in the beginning and still be manufacturing defects.  So, again, why would I pay for any kind of plan, if the phone is 3 months old and not working properly??

    Glance again.

You can make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store.

My wife is having the very same problem with Bluetooth connectivity. Our text feature starting working yesterday with her IPhone 4! We also noticed some nice screen updates on our weather radar map features. Does anyone know where updates like this are communicated?

I had the same problem to connect to my car (Volvo XC60) via BT from my iPhone 5. I had previously an iPhone 4 and I created my new iPhone 5 via a restore from my iPhone 4 that I had connected to my XC60 working perfectly.

    What I did was the following;

    1. Renamed my new iPhone 5 so that the names not were in conflict with the old one,

    2. I deleted all BT connections in my car,

    2. Search for my iPhone 5 again in my car and when the phone was detected I just followed the instructions and added my new phone to my car

I am having an issue in my new infiniti, It streams music fine via bluetooth, I can place a call, but when a call comes in, the audio is not transferred to the car. Did alot of searching, looks like its a known issue with the new iphone 5 bluetooth chipst. This to me would qualify as a manufacturing defect! Apple is known for this kind of garbage. I have had an iphone since the original, but getting tired of these issues.

  • deggie Level 9 (52,130 points)

So if it is manufacturing defect in the iPhone why is it working in my car?

  • Brian Brady Level 1 (5 points)

The issue is out there, reported problems with many vehicle types, Nissan, Ford, Mazda and issues with headsets too. And just because there is a defect does not mean all will be subjected. I was never affected by the antenna gate issue.

As far as why its working for you, cant answer that. Just do a google search for iphone 5 bluetooth issues.

  • deggie Level 9 (52,130 points)

You can do a Google search for anything issues and get thousands of hits. If this was the way everything was judged then nothing works.

If it is a chipset problem then it would NOT work at all with my BMW, one friends Lexus, another's Mercedes-Benz, another's Camaro SS, etc. If you do sift through the many posts (and BT connections always have trouble posts no matter which companies device) this time appears to be with Nissan, Infiniti (owned by Nissan, same BT connectivity), Mazda, Honda and Acura (again, same corporate entity for the last two).

I know that Honda and Mazda use BT from the same company, wonder if Nissan also does? Hopefully this won't be a hardware problem at all but a firmware issue that can be solved between both companies. But it always helps the engineers to have lots of info. Add yours here:

I understand that but the only common denominator here is the iphone5. It does not have an issue with iPhone 4,4s, droid or windows mobile. I tried them all work perfectly.

  • deggie Level 9 (52,130 points)

No, that isn't the only common denominator.
