Q: Anyone else have flickering/ghosting keyboard on iphone 5?

When I enter my password in the app store, lines begin to flicker across rows of the keyboard.

Here is an example. This has happened on my last two visits to the app store. The first two or three times there was no problem.  This is the only context in which I observe the flickering keyboard. Is anyone else having this issue?

iPhone 5, iOS 6

seriously? i've called apple and called 2 different stores and they all know i bought mine online as well but have told me to come into the store and then after that they'll have to let em know when they have more replacements in store. it makes me madder thinking now that when i get there they're going to do the same thing to me

and of course i also can't log into the app store now on top of the screen problem

Im not 100% sure if it was just because of AT&T or its all carriers but the way they explained it was that if they do it theres a 50/50 chance that the carrier will shut your line off within minutes. Why that happens wasnt explained.

I've Googled to find out more about the issue. The only reference I found under "iPhone 5 problems" was on the wired website, which said that the flickering line is probably a software glitch which should be resolved in an update. I've decided not to worry about it for now, unless it gets worse.

I have the same problem and it only occurs in the App Store when typing.   I would file a bug report or call Apple and document the problem.

I'm sure it's software related and they'll release an update to fix it.  It would be more consistent and happening in other apps if it were an issue with the phone's hardware.   I wouldn't exchange the phone just yet.

I've filed a report and linked to this forum post.

This happened to me only once, when I told Navigon to restore purchases on my iPhone 5, while entering my password for the iTunes App Store. I took a video of it, in case it came back and I needed to show the Apple Genius the issue.  It's not happened again, yet.  I'm on my iPad so I can't post the video right now.

I have the same issue of the flickering, static-like lines on the screen. Here is a list of places where the glitch occurs:

    - App Store Login Screen.

    - Pulling down App folders.

Fluke sightings (one or two times at most):

    - The bottom of keyboard while posting a comment on Instagram while changing from letters to numbers.

I called Apple and they advises a full factory reset, setting it up as a new iPhone and then moving my data from iCloud.

So, I did this. Everything was going fine. Downloaded some apps and had no glitch. I would say it has been like 2 days but just now I went to put in my password and the lines appeared again when switching to numerical keyboard. I quickly closed the App Store and went to an app folder and had the same happen.

    Now let us think.

Why doesn't it happen all the time? Why only in certain places with specific animations? Why don't I get the glitch while typing other alphanumeric passwords on the phone?

The phone is perfect otherwise. No issues. No hassles. I would really wish Apple would say something so that we can rest assured. Seems illogical to me that they wouldn't and just keep swapping phones.

I was decided on getting a replacement but too many people complain that replacements have the same issues. And if it a hardware issue (which I doubt given that I would assume hardware would glitch far more often and less specifically) I don't want any of those super rushed second batches going out next.

I'm going to try and wait it out.

I absolutely agree.  While I too have had very few intermittent flickering issues with the phone; this is the ONLY issue I have encountered since my pre-order.  I have had no other issues to this point, so I too find it pointlessto run to the store and have the phone replaced only to have it happen on another phone (And in some cases that I've read, risk having worse things happen AFTER the swap).

    Like you. I will wait.

Yup. Count me in too.  It doesn't happen every time but happens when I type in password for App Store. Not sure if iOS6 related. I had my old iphone 4 with iOS6 but didin't have the problem...

Same issue here with a black 32GB AT&T.  On my second phone already.  The first time it happened on my phone I had residual purple dots all over the screen.  Looked like a pixie vomited purple pixie dust under the glass.

Just happened again last night on the new one and I am unable to reproduce it, but it did happen on the lower half of the keyboard like the others.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine who has a black 16GB verizon.

    At the Genius bar now...

Same here Iphone 5 16GB white , only on app store password entry , happened to me twice so far , sadly for me I can’t replace it since I bought it in London at launch day but I live in Israel , Iphone 5 is yet to be sold here…. I will try to reproduce this on my Ipad ( I saw one report of a user saying it happened on his Ipad) if it will happen there it is certainly a software glitch.

My suggestion to forum members to do the same , try reproducing on 4s and Ipads , if more people will report it happened on other devices running IOS 6 we can rule out  Hardware defect and we can all calm ourselves a bit …..

Genius told me to restore to factory, not from back up. Clearly they do not have an official answer yet for this problem.

One of the guys at my office just switched from a BlackBerry to a 5 and had no back up and still had the issue, so I know a restore is nothing more than a stop gap.

One of the other guys working at the Genius bar said this, "I dont think I have seen an iPhone 5 yet that hasn't done that."

Yes. Same thing. I was going to return my phone, but if it's a software issue, I feel better.

My first iphone. First post also.

Had the same flicker line when using keyboard in AppStore.

Tried reset and restore using tools in iphone settings but problem reappeared.

Went to Genius Bar. Was told restoring from iPhone doesn't help since same SW will be restored.

Got help from Apple genius to restore using their MacBook/iTune.

Haven't seen a problem since then.

Hope to heard more from guys who have same problem.

If it is a SW issue. This should be the ultimate fix.

Otherwise, this could be a hardware defect triggered by SW.
