Q: Anyone else have flickering/ghosting keyboard on iphone 5?

When I enter my password in the app store, lines begin to flicker across rows of the keyboard.

Here is an example. This has happened on my last two visits to the app store. The first two or three times there was no problem.  This is the only context in which I observe the flickering keyboard. Is anyone else having this issue?

iPhone 5, iOS 6

This happened to me only once, when I told Navigon to restore purchases on my iPhone 5, while entering my password for the iTunes App Store. I took a video of it, in case it came back and I needed to show the Apple Genius the issue.  It's not happened again, yet.  I'm on my iPad so I can't post the video right now."

Just want to add, after reading here since my first post, that I think the reason the problem has not come back for me is that I restored my phone to factory, and restored from backp (that was after I removed some corrupt music and voice memos before I saved the backup).

I think the issue was either a corrupt iOS install or a corrupt backup that had been restored to the phone, and once one or both were fixed the issue went away.  That fix also tripled my battery life, and instead of running down in 5-6 hours I can go 18 hours standby with about 5 hours of usage during that time before I drop below 10%.

DocJekl, I restored like you did and I'm still having issues. In fact, they are more frequent now. I've even done it again and withheld from putting any files or apps back: still the same.

I just wish they'd confirm it is software.

So, I wonder what is different in my setup that it stopped doing this.  My hardware is different than yours, but my hardware is the same as when it had the problem for me before.  For me, the only thing that's changed is my software install and backup quality.

Same problem here. Apple do something. It's annoying knowing the price of the phone.

Both on AppleID entry keyboard and a large multiline flickering on the camera app in video mode.

    Not happy.

An update: I spoke to someone who is in the Corporate Executive Relations department about the issue with the flickering/static lines over the phone this afternoon. I asked her if it were alright to share the details with the community & got the green light as it is their official stance/reply on the matter. As many have posted -- Apple isn't one to usually issue statements concerning all problems that arise. I think they may have only done it twice in the past that I can recall.

She said that Apple is aware of the issue & that they're working on it. It will be patched in an upcoming iOS update. It's confirmed to be a software issue. Why it only happens on some devices, she didn't have details. The bottom line is that they're working on it now & we will have a solution.

Exchanging out the phone will not specifically solve the problem, which is why many people have had the same thing happen in their replacements. Please note that I talked with her about the static lines when inserting password in the App Store, pulling down folders, & at certain times when I have experienced the glitch (such as when the semi-transparent, dark keyboard is pulled) & not some of the other additional quirks some users have expressed in this thread.

I'm very happy I decided to wait it out.

That is great to hear dollsoflace. Finally someone has shed some light on the actual issue. I'm glad I've waited too. I knew it was software based and cannot wait for the next update. I love my phone!

Had the same issue since Day One. My real question is is this a hardware issue or a software issue and will I need to return my phine for a replacement or will Apple be able to fix the problem with a software update? No repsonse from Apple about this is really startying to bother me. IT IS CERTAINLY A KNOWN ISSUE!

mattskaj ... there is a post above from one of the community indicating communication from Apple where they confirm the issue is software related and not hardware.

I have the same problem with iphone 5 static on the keyboard when entering password at the app store, it happens every once in awhile... yesterday I was  entering a new contact in my address book on my iphone 5 and while I was inputing the address the letter A kept flasing in and out and then poping like I kept touching it (you know how you touch a letter on the keyboard and the letter enlarge?) So I called Apple last night and got a girl in India who was totally unsupportive, she said she had no clue about this and no information about this as a known issue and basically told me to reset the phone, then restore it if it doesn't work... why do I have to go through al this? Going to the Apple store this weekend for some real help. Good luck everyone!

This is not the same issue, I observed this issue on my iPad 3 with iOS 6 and I think it happens on other iOS devices too.

It's probably an (other) iOS 6 bug.
