Being a bit more clear and re-phrasing your question will help us understand what you mean...

The more descriptive your question is, the more likely it is to get an answer...

What computers are on your network?

PCs only?

How do they connect to the Linksys switch? All of them wirelessly?

a few Macs running 9.x, a bunch of Macs running 10.4.x and some serious SGI workstations running Irix 6.5.x

hello greek2me

a Linksys router is platform independant.

You can access it from your mac using http://192.168.1.1

you login with a user name of 'admin' and password 'admin' although these login details have changed with the new models. Refer to the manual.

One you see the linksys web configuration screen, select the wireless tab and you can enter a new SSID by default it is set to 'linksys'.

I need the Linksys to get a PC (Dell) running wireless. I installed a motorola PCI card for ethernet & the software that came with it in the PC. The switch does not read the network.

The last time I spoke with Linksys they suggested http://192.168.1.1/same address, also 192.168.1.225. I get network connection errors.

I have my Powerbook hard wired to the Motorola wireless router. My I-Mac is wireless. I hooked up the Linksys switch to the modem with ethernet cat 5 cable. I still get connection errors. Neither computer can access these links. I get Motorola's broadband page with 192.168.1.1. I've done as much as I know but can't change the ssid if I can't access the Linksys switch. HELP Please!

Now, let's try to brake this issue down:

I need the Linksys to get a PC (Dell) running wireless. I installed a motorola PCI card for ethernet & the software that came with it in the PC. The switch does not read the network.

This involves a networking issue on a PC running Windows

The last time I spoke with Linksys they suggested http://192.168.1.1/same address, also 192.168.1.225. I get network connection errors.

This is an issue of your network setup

I have my Powerbook hard wired to the Motorola wireless router. My I-Mac is wireless.

So PowerBook & iMac work fine. Right?

You also have a Motorola Wireless Router, is this also your broadband modem?

I hooked up the Linksys switch to the modem with ethernet cat 5 cable. I still get connection errors. Neither computer can access these links. I get Motorola's broadband page with 192.168.1.1. I've done as much as I know but can't change the ssid if I can't access the Linksys switch. HELP Please!

This is a bit confusing:

What do you mean by connection errors? Unable to connect, able to connect but the connection drops?

Try this:

  1. Shutdown your PC and both of your Macs

  2. Turn of the Linksys switch and unplug it from the Motorola Router

  3. Unplug the PowerBook which is wired to the Motorola and directly (with the same ethernet cable) connect it to the Linksys switch

  4. Turn on the Linksys switch

  5. Turn on your PowerBook

  6. Open Safari or any other browser and go to: http://192.168.1.225 or http://192.168.1.225 (or whatever address Linksys told you)

  7. Configure your Linksys switch (Change SSID) and save new settings

now, if everything goes fine, then:

  1. Connect the PowerBook to the Motorola Router (just as it was before)

  2. Connect the Linksys switch to the Motorola Router via an Ethernet Cable

  3. Try to connect (from your PowerBook via Safari) to the Linksys switch@ http://192.168.1.225 or http://192.168.1.225 (or whatever address Linksys told you)

Keep the iMac and the PC shutdown untill you manage to set up the Linksys switch propperly

Post back feedback

Thanks you for your efforts but, the WET11 Linksys is not responding as it ought to. In response to your questions: Yes, the Mac's are fine. The Motorola is a wireless router, connected to my broadband modem (General Instruments).
I did exactly what you suggested (the Cat 5 Cable is fine), but the Powerbook couldn't get online at all, let alone the suggested links when I use the Linksys. As for the I-Mac, this is the message I get when I try the link. "Safari could not open the page “ http://192.168.1.1/” because the server stopped responding". The same goes for 192.168.1.225.

Your PowerBook wasn't supposed to get online. It was supposed to be connected only to the Linksys switch, so you could configure it.

If you can't connect to the Linksys while it's directly attached to a computer through a Cat5 cable, then something's wrong with the Linksys box. Is the switch new?

Did you try to connect it to the PC and configure it from there?

Again: 1 Mac/PC-->Ethernet Cable-->Linksys, nothing else should be ON (you're probably experiencing IP address conflicts)

Your setup seems a bit redundant though, since your Motorola router is Wireless why do you need the Linkys switch?
Why not connect all your wireless computers to the Motorola?
