gmail wont setup on iphone 5

I had the same problem when upgrading from an iPhone3 (gmail worked perfectly) to an iPhone5 (it stopped working). For me, the problem was not 2-step verificiation - it was never switched on. I solved the problem by deleting the gmail account on my iPhone and then re-installing it, as someone else has done in this thread, with the same result. It all came good! So try that first!

Note that I have other, non-gmail accounts, and they transferred perfectly from my iPhone3 to my iPhone5.

If you have Two-Step Verification on you gmail account activated, you need to create an applications-specific password for you to be able to set up your account on your iPhone. Have a look at this video from google, it will explain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMabEyrtPRg&t=2m13s

I hae the same issue. Tried accessing gmail through safari, gmail app, mail setup and can't go through authentication. I have no problems accessing my gmail account from other phones/laptops.

I wonder if this is a result of the Google-Apple divorce. Why must the kids suffer?

I'm sure that Google will come up with a workaround and we can turn 2-step back on soon.

My issue is not with the two step verification process. I have generated app specific passwords and entered them, everything turns up with check marks but no mail comes in. The darnest thing.

Turned off 2-Step & BINGO...works.

Strangely, this problem occurs for me only when using cellular data, not when on wifi. It's been like this since I got the phone at launch. I do not have two-step authentication turned on.

I went online, activated the two-step verification, generated password for mail app and still nothing:(( help, i need gmail, it's my main mail service.

I turned 2 step verification ON and that fixed it for me.

Two step verification On/Off - in both cases gmail as exchange does not work. If I add as gmail account (6.1.2) in both cases work ok. But I wanna ad it as exchange account.

Any ide?

Adding in the two step verification through Gmail account settings worked instantly for both my iphone 5 and ipad.
