My iPhone 5 battery has been wonderful until the latest software update. I now have to charge my phone several times throughout the day and it is getting VERY annoying. I am also having a problem making calls when my service is switching from one tower to another. I have to restart my phone when I travel from my home to the next town over and then again when I come back. These problems are all since the update. I agree, I pay a lot of money for apple products because they are SUPPOSED to be the best. I hope a solution is offered fast!!
Same problem here.... I currently administer the Verizon account for my company. We have approximately 65 phones and 17 are Iphones (4s & 5).
I purchased my Iphone 5 Black 32GB (MD658LL/A) on 10/10/2012. Since then my phone has been performing great.
Around 2/5/2013, I noticed the battery draining very quickly. I haven’t changed anything with the settings on the phone. I’m always cautious of keeping unneeded things running.
- Disable the location services unless absolutely needed.
- Set my Exchange Account to manual.
- Keep Apps closed (double-click home button and remove running apps).
- I currently need to charge my phone 2 – 3 times daily.
- I turn off Wi-Fi when not in use.
- I turn off Bluetooth and seldom ever use it.
- I have reset the phone and restored from backup.
- I recently turned off LTE with no difference.
I’ve owned every model of iphones available to Verizon service and never had an issue with a battery in any of them until now.
I am on my 3rd iPhone 5 (black, 32gig) and waiting for the 4th exchange. The battery sucked each and every time, I use all the saving tips (and keep being annoyed as this handcuffs so many of the phones capabilities) ...
Up until recently, the battery drain was only horrible when on cellular data. Wifi only (with cellular data) switched off was ok (still not as good as the 4 or even 3gs though), only in flight mode the battery was somehow good (but then again, I could buy an ipod).
Recently even in flight mode the battery doesnt hold a charge anymore. Couple of days ago I went to bed around 10:30 pm with 30%, woke up at 4:40 am and the battery was at 2%. In flight mode all the time, not used, all apps closed. Happened again a couple of times after that.
I never leave the house without my charger and need to luck for restaurants or cafes with outlets when out all day.
I've been buying apple products for 10+ years, spending more than 10k. This is a joke. But that Apple cannot admit that there's a problem, that's an even bigger joke.
WHY DO PEOPLE INSIST THAT THE WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM IS TO TURN SETTINGS OFF....THAT IS NOT THE ANSWER THERE IS NO ANSWER TO IT WHAT WE CAN DO OURSELFS ITS ONLY APPLE, U CAN MINIPULATE FEATURES ECT TO GET A BIT EXTRA LIFE BUT YOUR NOT SOLVING THE PROBLEM SO PEOPLE SAYING TURN THIS THAT AN THE OTHER OFF SORTS THE PROBLEM OUT....NO IT DUNT ONLY APPLE CAN SORT IT AN APPLE ONLY, UNTILL THEY DO STOP WATCHING THE % GO DOWN MIN BY MIN ON THE BATTERY, WEN YE BATTERY GOES RED CHARGE IT....SIMPLE....RANT OVER
I just wanted to say, since the first few messages were about data usage and batteries draining fast without going on anything, that the iPhones have a lot of technology in them and that they are constantly working and they are always staying on the Internet. How else do you get messages? Or alerts. The iPhones are constantly moving and improving themselves so this is a devise that will have to be charged every night.
I agree that the technology in the iPhone is amazing but when my battery goes from lasting me all day to having to be fully charged 3 and 4 times a day something is wrong. Charging your phone at night is one thing but always worring about how long your battery is going to last is horrible. This has not been an issue before the last update. The battery life of my son's iPhone 5 is still great but he hasn't don't the update.
Just for fun, do not change any of your settings but ONLY disable LTE/3G to stick on edge...
For me it is like double battery life... So what to conclude ?
3G LTE are battery draining ? Yes, not any other app or mail exchange... It consume a lot power when using network... End of story...
I checked the log of the phone when booting, it set the max transmit power of antenna, maybe Apple set a too high value... Anyway I would really like to have an official message from Apple that clearly state if there is an issue or not... I m bored to charge my phone at work just because I use it in the train to browse some website only...
This is killing me :( I did an experiment the other night, I fully charged my phone and then took it off and went to bed. Woke up 8 hours later and did not touch the phone once the entire night. It went down to 26%!!!!! I cannot have a phone that doesn't work!!!!! I have tried everything written in here, hard reboots, turn off LTE, all my apps are off- I even went and got a new phone from apple which I did as a 'new' phone without transferring anything, but te problem is still here!!!!
Frankly, I've had enough of this.
According to the Apple specs (http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html), the iPhone 5 has the following battery life:
- Talk time: Up to 8 hours on 3G
- Standby time: Up to 225 hours
- Internet use: Up to 8 hours on 3G, up to 8 hours on LTE, up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi
- Video playback: Up to 10 hours
- Audio playback: Up to 40 hours
Even taking into account their disclaimer (All battery claims depend on network configuration and many other factors; actual results will vary. Battery has limited recharge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced by Apple service provider. Battery life and charge cycles vary by use and settings. See www.apple.com/batteries and www.apple.com/iphone/battery.html for more information), I am note even close to these figures.
This is a long way of saying that as soon as the Galaxy V comes out, if Apple has not fixed this issue we can all investigate if we can get out of our 2-year contract based on a claim of false advertising. The false advertising is that no one here is achieving 8h of internet use on LTE. And I am sure many others have the same issue but are not technically savvy enough to joint an internet forum.
Remember - it's what you can prove. Take screenshots of the "usuage" dropping by 20% every hour.
I have experimented with various solutions listed above. Turned off any push data or any app that does anything online in the background (as far as I was able to) and the battery life improved in a way that when in idle or when I use it for any off-line activity, it seems to drain less, but when I do anything online, the drain starts again (even on wifi). Iti is really something to do the way it uses the network in IOS 6.1.
I sincerely hope 6.1.1 is around the corner otherwise we can safely place the iPhone into a display cabinet and admire it from a distance....pointless to take it on the road.
