Q: iPhone 5 battery draining very fast

I purchased my iPhone 5 64GB today, I used it for about 2 hours and a half. The battery was 98% when I purchased it. Is anyone having this difficulty as well? Please let me know....

Brand-new phone from T-mobile. This exchange did not go through Apple but through the designated iPhone customer care department at T-mobile. I didn't even have to ask. They said right away: you'll get a new one, a refurbished wouldn't seem fair to you after only a week.

I am usually an Android user, but I got a great deal on a new iPhone 5 recently. Compared to my Galaxy S3 and my LG Optimus and Nexus 4, the batter life on this iPhone is fantastic. Last night I charged it to 100%, unplugged it, when I woke up it was still at 100%. There doesn't seem to be any battery drain unless it's being used unlike every android phone I've owned. Had this been my Galaxy s3, it would of been at 80-85%.

Some people in this thread complain about turing features off, it's the same with Android.

With my Galaxy S3, the first thing I would do is disable 13 Rogers apps, turn off GPS and bluetooth, turn off Sync and turn screen brightness down. Then after a new reset or install, it would take a couple of days and charges for the battery usage to become stable. Even after all that, the battery life is still not as good as what I'm getting with my iPhone.

Could be just because I can't find any worthwhile apps to install on the iphone, or because other than changing wallpaper, there's not much to play around with. Whatever the reason, I'm happy with mine.

Zeaks, when you let your iphone on stand by mode and its still on 100 percent when you woke up, is the 3G setting on?

    How do you delete iCloud?

Unfortunately deleting iCloud is not an option for most users, since Apple integrated "Find my iPhone" into it. I refuse to remove that essential setting in the event my iphone is lost or stolen.

Once again, offering to remove services from a phone that as Steve Jobs once said, should "just work" is pointless and deceiving, in my opinion. I'd rather be on another platform if they can't get it to "just work" anymore.

I've had the same issue. The battery life of my 5 was decent. I could go all day using apps like FB, Twitter, mail, etc. pretty heavily and still have about 30%+ left on my battery until about the same time you mentioned. I can't even make it to the end of my work day with more than 10% battery life. More often it's in the single digit range.

Same issue here, I have just disable bluetooth to see what I can get.

With bluetooth ON, the phone is a little hot and battery draining in 5 hours.

The devices actually paired on Bluetooth (not connected) are: BMW, DNX5190, Mazda. 3 cars I owned.

This happen even if those devices are off range.

    Guys,

after two days it seems like i've solved my Iphone 5 battery drainage issue:

Drain battery to complete shut off

    recharge to 100% fully

    Keep charger connected

Perform Hard Reset and then disconnect charger.

it seems it is more battery indicator % calibration problem and not the battery or proccess itself.

    Please test and report back.

By "Hard Reset" do you mean switch the phone off? And do we disconnect the charger when the phone is off or once we've turned it back on?

    Thanks!

I have literally done EVERYTHING imaginable to fix this draining issue. I have tried resetting my phone, restoring it, turning 4g off, turning location services off, deleting icloud, turning siri off... literally everything. I'm sick and tired of this phone. It's been on standby for 6ish hours and used for about 3ish hours and it's at 36%. I need to issue to be GONE soon otherwise I'm switching to an android.

Not sure if you've tried this - but don't "restore" set the phone up as NEW. Meaning don't restore from a prior back up. By doing so all you're doing is also restoring bad software. Once

You've set up as new then go back and sync your music, photos, movies etc.   I feel your pain, it wasn't until I set up as new (the above process) that my device finally worked. Trust me its NOT a device issue. It's the software.

I just wanted to verify that the fix suggested above by Tm5 worked for me.

My iPhone 5 suddenly in the last week started draining very, very quickly.  I did a reset under General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings.  Then I let the battery fully drain.  I kept attempting to turn it on for a while, just to make sure the battery really drained fully, below 1%.  Then I charged it to 100%, left it on the charger for a few hours after that, and did a Reset All Settings again.  Then disconnected from the charger.

Since then, it's been fine.  It's actually kind of strange because it seems like it's not draining fast enough now, but I'm not complaining.

It would be nice if someone can respond to mollp1969's question regarding the reset in your response. By reset are you referring to hardware or a software reset? If software, where is it?  Also, exactly at what point do you unplug the phone?  As the phone is resetting or after it comes back from a reset?

    1. Drain your Iphone 5 fully until it shuts off

    2. fully chard it to 100% - make sure you see the 100% and charging is now stop and idle.

    3. keep charger connected.

    4. perform a hard reset - Sleep button + Home button.

    5. after reset wait until Iphone Loads completely

    6. disconnect the charger.

    The end.
