I may have resolved my problem, but will have to checj my phone once I get home and recharge it. Siri was on, but I don't know if it's always been active or not so I turned it off. I also read that the exchange service for Hotmail was an issue so I removed the account from my phone as I rarely use it. So far I've lost 2% in about an hour and half indicates the battery drain is back to normal.
I'll re-evaluate tomorrow and post my findings.
I bought a new iPhone 5 and after 4-5 days having the battery problem as mentioned everywhere.
I was surprised to find one thing. Maybe some of you will also do.
Go to settings. General. Usage. Cellular usage. See your call time (lifetime) and you will be surprised. Well at least I was as mine was showing 73 days.
Looks like the restore option does have something to do. If the phone usage can be restored to the new phone then surely a lot of unwanted stuff must be getting in too.
I've just checked my phone and after almost 2 1/2 hr it is still at 100% and I've only checked my email. I disabled the iCloud backup yesterday during the day and deleted the Microsoft Exchange account. Last night I put the iCloud backup on again, but I have not put the Hotmail account on the phone. Oh, and Siri is turned off because it was also on. Looks like everything is normal.
So it's been 12.5 hrs and my phone is at 77% with only texting a couple of phone calls and minimum Internet use. It appears there is an issue with the Microsoft Exchange email. http://smartphones.wonderhowto.com/how-to/fix-battery-draining-issue-your-iphone -after-updating-ios-6-1-3-0145493/
my iphone 5 battery draining really fast, 1% every 2 minutes. went to apple store, they said reset the iphone will be fine, then they did for me. when i got home, installed my all apps again, still same. even I dont have any phone call, turn off everything which apple employee said, like wireless, bluetooth, etc, then I only use one app chat with my friend with few messages, still 1% 2minutes.
I've run out of mobile date at the moment and so I've had it turned off in my settings. It was unplugged at 9am this morning and I've used it still just with 3G turned off. It's over 12 hours now and I'm down to 32% battery whereas with 3G on I'd probably be on about 16% now on it's second charge of the day!
But there are people out there who are saying their battery life is fine after changing these settings and some aren't, it's made me think of something.
I'm wondering if battery life is different depending on if you have 3G or 4G.
So which are you on? And how is your battery life?
I was to the Apple Genus bar today with iPhone 5 battery draining quickly. I only get about 5 hours in standby from 100% charge. I have turned off thinks I'm not using like Bluetooth and removed all apps from the task bar.
Before I want to Apple I reset all setting and erased the phonethen restored from backup.
After the genus looked at the phone she told me that i should reset and erase the phone
and restore. I then told her that had been done two weeks ago, she then started to tell me to reset and erase then set it up as a new phone not to restore from backup.
Has anyone done a factory reset and setup as new phone and if so did it fix the batter drain problem?
Paul, I did a restore as new and it helped for a day or so (or maybe I was just overly cautious in using it), but it's back to draining quicker than it did when I started having problems a month or so ago. That being said, I think at least it's worth a try. I would do a complete backup and if there's no difference, at least you can put it back to the way it was before the restore and get back lost apps data, saved voicemails, etc.
I have read thousands of posts, threads, blogs, etc. I was a samsung galaxy s2 and s3 for sometime. Decided to finally use a iphone because it was approved by company telecom department. Besides I was a bit tired of android bugs and battery was never a great thing but neither was for iphone. Anyway I bought my iphone 5. Standby batttery time is amazing! Using the phone on wifi, network data off and bluetooth off I can surely have 8 - 9 hours of usage (emails, phone calls, facebook, a lot of whatsapp, and a bit of browsing - since sitting in the office is more confortable browser on a big screen). If I have a day on the road and do the same activities but using the 3G (not LtE), my phone would die at 16:00 with not much more than 4 hours of usage. I really dont care about standby time. Even though my galaxy would drain on standby much more than iphone. So I think apple should look at 3G drainning for this phone. Urgently. Just browsing I lose 1% every two or three minutes! My email is on push, location is just on finding my phone. Notification is almost on on all apps.
Since the release of iOS 6.13 my phone has become very hot always and also when in sleep. I have tried everything from complete new installation no application... same thing very hot. a few weeks I gave up and restored from a back up, every day unpugged at 100% at 8am and by 11am it is down to 2% or so. This the include a 30min car ride and then phone sits at my desk indicating 4G 1-3 bar service. I have update the apps as then came out with new updates ssome 150+ apps.
This Thuesday something happened... on Wednesday the phone was not hot, actually "metal" cold and battery was sill at 30% at 7pm and now with commute back home. Same thing Thursday and as well today.
Have no clue what happened!. Same rutine. same desk. same 4G 1-3bar. So AT&T newtwork updated something? on app that became available and I upgraded on Tuesday was the rootcause? [I can not remember which it was.
But for now I will do no more updates to see if this is a stable state for the phone.
Hi Dom, luckily a restore fixed my battery!!!!!
I took my iphone5 to apple store after 60% battery drained overnight (with everything that could be turned off off during my SLEEP, how ridiculoud is that!)
That guy basically just did a restore of my iphone and I came home downloaded apps like this was a new phone ever. No, I didn't syn with iTunes.
The battery is fixed! I went to bed last night at 12:00 after a full charge and got 99% left this morning (7am or so), so...... Your suggestion definitely works!
Hi Frosa, I just did a test. I kept browsing and reading forums on 3G, so this is how the battery goes, 60% @10:25 when I started browsing, 55% @10:45, so basically 5% drained during 20 mins.
Hardly any better than yours, isn't it? so guess it's just a common issue, apple BATTERY DRAINS!!
But I'm really glad it doesn't drain itself on standby anymore.
