Q: iPhone 5 battery draining very fast

Other than battery, the S4 is a really great phone; I considered it myself, but unfortunately, the 200 or so iPhone apps I have bought or downloaded won't run on it

It's also kind of big, which some people like, others can't stand.

We're going off topic, but I really hope apple won't pass the 4.7" display size ...

hey sometimes sim card cause standby battery drain. have anyone tried changing simcard or use phone without sim card?my android sloved same matter by that way

Good morning - I just replaced my Iphone 5 with a new or refurbished device - I noticed in the "old" one the e-mail app - native iphone mail app connected to both Gmail and my exchange server - set on PUSH - was constantly checking for new mail - you could actually see the line in the bottom of screen jumping like crazy - trying to check for a new mail constantly - so could this have been the result of the drainage and the over heating ??!!!

So far still no issues from last reset.  Also, did some asking around on the Galaxy and unfortunately the battery is not much better.  Try the reset one last time.

Almost certainly. There is a flaw in the ActiveSync protocol used by MS Exchange. If a connection to the server is broken the server creates a new connection. But the phone does not "know" that the old connection is broken, so it keeps trying to use it and failing. This condition can be caused by an iOS update that interrupts a connection in process, a crash of iOS, or just an interrupted transmission for other reasons. If this happens several times you have the phone trying and failing on several connections, which consumes battery and causes the phone to get hot from all of the data usage and battery drain.

If you suspect this has happened the fix is simple - go to Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendars. Tap on the MS Exchange account and turn off all of the switches. Reboot the phone (hold HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears), then go back to Settings and turn the switches back on. This process kills all connections between the phone and the Exchange server, so it starts up clean.

As an alternative, run the battery all the way down until the phone shuts off, then charge to 100% with a wall charger. The shutdown for low battery also kills all running processes on the phone.

you may need to replace your battery because there is a virus that attacks your battery and give someone acces to you Iphone.  I know this it happened to me twice.  You can tell when you reset your phone and you country is already in united states.  You need to replace your battery

No, really...   It's possible that a virus infecting the phone is using up the battery charge quickly, but there's no processor in the battery that can "catch" a virus.

Wow! What utter rot! First, a virus infecting a battery? Give me a break!

There are also no known viruses that affect unjailbroken iPhones.

The lithium battery has some kind of memory of the battery.  Someone explained it to me before that's why the call them a smart battery, and hold a better charge you can slip a virus wiitch cause you battery to exploed.  Also gives a backdoor to your iphone and affects anyone you call or text

I'm thinking this is a little untrue. All betteries have what is called a 'memory' so I've heard, and I've heard this way before the iPhone and such were created and is why you should run your battery down right to the end and charge to 100% every so often, just to refresh everything. But just because it has a memory, this doesn't by all means mean it's 'smart' and can get viruses in it because I don't think it is possible to get viruses in batteries.

Let's be clear, for those who are confused.   There is a symptom of certain (not all) battery technologies called "memory".   That refers to the battery chemistry acting in a different way in the future depending on how it was treated in the past.  That's why it's called "memory."  For example, the problem is seen when one keeps a battery fully charged all the time, never letting it discharge.  The chemistry of the battery changes so that after a long time like this, the amount of power that can be had from the battery is lessened.   Cycling the battery through monthly complete discharge/charge cycles helps ameliorate this problem, and you get more life out of the battery.  

That "memory" is very different from a computer's memory of bits, bytes, and gigabytes, which are digital storage units capable of holding a program.   Computer viruses are programs.

Battery "memory" cannot hold programs.
