Well it's a little early to call it but I think the DFU restore has fixed the battery life problem for me. I've dropped 15% in about an hour and 10 minutes of usage on 3G which is MUCH better than I was getting before. Still not the greatest considering this was on the lowest brightness setting but I'm also in a 2 bar signal area so a higher drain is expected.

I'm just getting out of the apple store and the genius told me he has the same issue as we all have. And refused to change my iPhone and said there is going to be an update in the few next weeks. For him, there is no doubt this is a software issue.

    Let's wait and see...

Thank for sharing. I was about to return my phone today.

Since wiping my phone and starting over, it's been a lot better.

Today I noticed gmail acting strangely. It was notifying me over and over for the same emails. I turned off notifications entirely for gmail, as well as a few other apps.

I'm currently at 90% battery and 1.5 hours usage. Which is pretty **** good. Considering on the second day I went from 100% to 0% in 4 hours usage.

In most cases I am certain this is software based. But it's a pain to troubleshoot and fix. Especially as it appears multiple software issues are at play.

I have a feeling even so much as logging in to iCloud could bring across some corrupt files that cause problems.

I Hope apple fix this properly soon.

I have been having the same issue as well.  I had gone through 5 different NEW iPhones with the Apple Store and Apple Care.  I really couldn't figure out why my battery was draining every minute. (1% every minute or so).  I did everything I could possibly do.  Optimizing the battery, draining it completely, charging it fully.  Restoring the phone.  Set up the phone as new.  I was still having the fast battery drain.  Apple Care had no idea.  Neither did the store.

I had one last thing I hadn't tried, and it was the DFU Restore.  It took a little while, but it seemed to have worked.  My iPhone was at 100% off the charger overnight, and when I woke up, it was still at 100%!  This morning, with a few texts here and there, surfing of the internet, a few games, and talking on the phone, I'm down to 87%.  My usage stats are:

Usage: 1 hour and 27 minutes

Standby: 9 hours and 45 minutes

    Battery: 87%

Give the DFU a try! It definitely resolved my issue with reinstalling the iOS as "new."

in all of my iphones over the years i have never seen such drastic battery decline.  literally 1 % per minute in some cases .

    ive done all the usual.

I did a restart, restore, turned off lte , turned off location services and killed unused processess in memory etc etc.

i installed this app called carat.

it's showing me some processes that i can't seem to figure out how to kill.

    tccd, ialtransportd, kbd, blue tool?

each being killed will give me about 15 more minutes of battery time it says?

    what are these processes?

google has not helped me so far.

also when i have settings open it is saying that closing it will save me over 2 hours??  why would just opening the settings drain so much??

I also installed Carat... I don't know how to kill those processes either. (Also saying I can save 15 minutes of battery) Some help would be appreciated!

i tried it on my phone last night but still the same, nothing change. I already close all notifications and didn't install any games and music. My phone is 26% battery with 6hours, 14minutes usage and 21hours, 25minutes on standby.

you should check the settings, and if you are not using wi-fi and you have it on turn it off is just basic things you have to check, also check what apps are playing like games and stuff

charge your battery when its dying. battery drains quick if you dont properly do the charge cycle. also put brightness low i know some ppl put the brightness up the max and keep the data on which will drain it out fast. the iPhone 5 was supposed to have a longer battery life than the 4

I had a similar expereince. Do you know if LTE is forcing a data connection even when WiFi is connected? Also, I have poor 4g/LTE coverage when inside my apartament, do you think this is why it was draining fast?

When I turned off Cell Data, I was still able to make phonecalls and receive regular texts. WiFi was connected at all times. I am on 6 hours of use (games, music, video, browsing--all the heavy lifting) and 16 of standby for a whopping 22 hours and abttery still at 33%!!!

Can you share your further expereince please?

***Even when Cell Data is off, I am still having poor service (bad spot here) about 1-2 bars. That was NOT turned off as I can't give up being able to make phonecalls Still, the hours under heavy use are impressing me so far.

When plugged into your computer turn off your phone. Hold down the sleep/power button and home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button. Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an iPhone in recover mode has been detected. Then restore your phone.

IMO this has nothing to do with LTE. As I've had lots of issues with battery and I don't even have a 4G option as my carrier doesn't support it.

When restoring in DFU, do you then restore is iCloud or what? Or setup as new?
