Q: iPhone 5 battery draining very fast

I purchased my iPhone 5 64GB today, I used it for about 2 hours and a half. The battery was 98% when I purchased it. Is anyone having this difficulty as well? Please let me know....

any news on this issue? have apple acknowleged the issue?

    iPhone 5 currently sitting at 3hrs 43min usage, and 35% remaining...really disappointing.

After a strong start, now on 50% and 2.5 hours usage.

This piece of **** is going to be taken back if Apple don't sort it soon.

I cannot figure out 100% whether its a hardware or software issue. Or a mix of both.

But it's seriously ******* me off. No official announcement from Apple or anything.

    Argh

    Kalon,

Can you please elaborate how did you get such impressive numbers?

Was it plugged in even for a bit after the full charge or not at all? What radio/data were you using? Can you share the settings with us? Anything else you think may have contributed?

    Much appreciated!

I returned mine and got 4s instead. I had a 4. I don't have LTE in my area anyway. From now on I am going to wait for the S version, so hopefully they will work the bugs out. My 5 was also horrible with my Motorola Elite Bluetooth, which I love! It screeched and cut in and out. Even after forgetting and repairing several times. The battery was unacceptable and the Bluetooth put me over the top from irritation over the battery. So long iPhone 5! Hope they get their crap figured out before I want to upgrade again. Been with IPhone since the iPhone 3 came out. Had always been pleased in the past.

One more thing - I hated the new screen size and the charger. The screen would have been fine bigger if they had also made it a tad wider. Maybe if they had, it could have had the old charger.

I realize it may have been frustrating.

Consider returning your 4s in about 28 days. Have your upgrade restored and buy the 5 again.

I'm not being sarcastic. By then, many quirks should be resolved. You can make up anything in the apple store to get full refund and then buy a 5 sealed. If you bought elsewhere, the 15% restocking fee may not be worth it--just wait for the next one.

    Anyway--your frustration fully understood.

I do think poor LTE reception will decrease battery life even when on WIFI.....sited from this article:

    http://www.macrumors.com/2012/09/26/iphone-battery-life-greatly-impacted-by-cell ular-signal-strength/

Check under General > About > Diagnostic & Usage > Diagnostic & Usage data.  Check to see if you have a bunch of crashes.  I think corrupted safari bookmarks were causing iCloud to get in a loop on my phone, I fixed that problem and now it seems like the battery problem is fixed for me (*crossed fingers)

Shutdown apps when you put your phone in standby (particually Safari)

    Here's my update for usage:

wifi on, cell data off for 9 hours yeilded 1% battery loss (97% down to 96%)

wifi on ,cell data on, LTE off for 4 hours yeilded 4% battery loss (96% down to 92%)

wifi on, cell data on, LTE on for 4 hours yeilded 4% battery loss (92% down to 88%)

right now I'm sitting at 88% battery with 35 minutes of usage and 17hrs 40mins of standby.  I think these number seem similar to what i was getting on my 4S using iOS5.  Next up, I am going to turn on Location Services for 5 or 6 hours and after that re-enable iCloud.

    Good Luck!

    Dean,

I have some crashes. Had the phone since the 21st. About 20 crash reports. Is that a lot? Nothing related to bookmarks. I don't use iCloud. The crashes are for various apps. Is that normal?

I have 7 crashes since my install on thursday, prior to that I had crashes every couple of minutes due to iCloud bookmark sync.  I think that was the root cause of my battery drain.

Just turned off all iCloud stuff. Gonna see if I get more than 2.5 hours per 50%.

iCloud is the issue, Apple should be able to fix this pretty quickly and release an update.

It is definetely icloud..... I turned all my icloud sync off except contacts and it's like i turned the light switch off, the battery drain has stalled to a bare minimal and is like night and day. Hopefully apple is reading these and pinpoints the problem in the cloud sync and issues a update fix ASAP.

I turned off all iCloud except for backup and I'm still dropping like crazy. I'll make just over 5 hours usage and about 10 hours standby before I'm 100% dead.

Can you guys explain exactly what you're doing with iCloud?
