iPhone 5, Restored as New twice, battery conditioned twice from 100% to 0% ,

Location Services Off, WIFI/Bluetooth Off, no iCloud, no Email accounts, no send to apple.....

Only internet browsing and whatsapp, few phone calls

75% consumption in 4 hours, died right after 5 hours.

What can be done? This is not a usable MOBILE phone

shutdown your lte. If you look at your signal, it consistently shows 3 bars. Iphone will drain very fast if your signal is less than 5.

  • jetpic Level 1 Level 1

Thanks Yoda, I have tried LTE on n off, makes no difference ...

  • askmasteryoda Level 1 Level 1

so the signal is still less than 5 without lte?

Are you using your phone indoor? If yes, the phone is automatically switch to Wifi if available but the cellular data setting somehow is still ON. Turn Cellular Data Off manually if using Wifi. And try reset all settings.

I manage to have 10 hrs usage, 2 days stand by/ 1% left. (Still try to achieve better record). See page 16 of this discussion thread of my previous post and the test scenario. Hope that helps.

Im at home, it shows 4 bars with or without LTE, battery drains the same as well with or without LTE, about 1% every 2-3 mins..

All the settings as per the thread have been complied with.

    All reset and restored tried.

Went back to the store twice, was told they have many complaints and I need to wait for IOS update.

    Thanks for your help guys

I'm someone else who upgraded from the iPhone 4 to the 5 this week. I noticed the drop I. Battery performance immediately. I can't get through a full day without recharging, despite fairly light use (music and browsing the news on my comments, some messaging and email / Facebook checks during the day, the odd phone call).

I've done the full battery rundown and switched off notifications etc for apps I didn't use, but I don't see the point of switching off LTE, etc... Unless I go overseas and won't be data roaming. I'd expect to easily get 24 hours out of the battery of mixed, moderate use - on the iPhone 4 I was usually getting 2 days out of the battery. The phone shouldn't be worse. Simply put, regardless of the reasons, Apple should not be releasing a product with inferior battery performance and then claim it's improved!! I don't want to switch to Samsun or Android (just not good enough), but I am considering returning the 5 and going back to my old iPhone 4 - to be honest, I'm paying more money on monthly contract and only getting a phone with a bit bigger screen and slightly better performance - not worth it if I have battery anxiety!! A least with the old iPhones you can find someone with a charger - no one else I know has the iPhone 5 so I need to carry around the charger with me!!!!

If you're having irreparable battery issues, just restore your phone and set up as a new phone BEFORE making an Apple Genius appointment to have the phone checked! Just voice your displeasure to the Genius and they will willingly swap your phone with a brand new one.

I had all of your battery problems and have tried every single method that has been suggested here, but to no avail. My new iPhone 5 is way better, apps don't crash anymore, and the battery is spotless!

One important note: when you do choose to swap a new phone, MAKE SURE you don't set up as a backup. START AS A NEW PHONE and TURN OFF LTE!

  • Dizman7 Level 1 Level 1

Yeah but you'll lose all your app data if you don't restore from backup.  And others have done that and said it doesn't help.

I tried turning OFF LTE, and I got even WORSE battery life.  I don't think there is any real fix until a patch.

    My 2 cents.

Only thing I have found to work for battery is LTE on/off.

LTE on: 6 hour 30 min before dead phone.

With LTE off: much much better.

*** NOTE: I even went so far as to change my General>Cellular>Cellular Data Network>APN back to what it was on my iPhone 4.   I don't know if people who have tried changing LTE off and seen no improvements, I wonder if the iPhone 5 continues to search to boost signals to these towers despite LTE off? ***

On a side note, I just want to say that I don't believe in all the other crap like:

    -  setup iPhone as new: some of us like keeping app data and texts etc.

    -  turn off iCloud: why disable features on a phone? what's the point then?

    -  turn off location services: ditto above, what's the point of a smartphone?

    -  shutdown all apps in multifunction menu all the time: who has the time or space to do that? So I check a text, read a webpage, all during lunchbreak, and I have to quickly shut everything down when I run back to work?  The whole point of the Macbook / Laptops in general with the "close-the-lid-and-sleep" function is so you can quickly sleep applications once you shut your notebook.  The iOS should have the ability to determine that when I shutdown my screen, it can sleep most apps on a "touch-screen" smartphone.  I have never conscientiously shut down apps running in b/g in iPhone 4, and it was never a problem.  I have yet to test if consistent multifunction shutdown improves battery, might still do that at some point.

Anyway hope this helps.  As I said above, when you turn off LTE, might be good to change you APN telco settings back to what it was originally.

For me in Australia, my APN used to say "telstra.iph", whereas on the iPhone 5 it said "telstra.wap". Don't know if this makes a difference.

I'm still having the same problem even though I turned off everything. Last night I fully charged my phone to prepare for work today (9 hours at work). But in the morning when I woke up my bettery was drain to about 60%...The time I stopped charging my phone was at 4 am, it was 100%. I woke up at 10am (approximately 6 hours standby) and my battery was down to 60%. Luckily I didn't have work until 12 pm so I charged it to about 90%. It's been 5 and a half hours and I'm at 16% battery life, didn't even do anything on it yet. I love apple products, and apple themselves, but was wondering if there's anything else I can do? Is there a backup battery pack for the iphone 5 yet?

  • matthewkooshad Level 1 Level 1

i charged, and had battery doctor running in the background, on my new iphone 5. after it reached 100% and BD said it was good time to unplug, i did so. i went to sleep with it inairplane mode and locked, and i woke up 8 hours later to find it at 60% -- shocked! there's obviously some problem, because my 3g, 3gs, and 4s never had this bad battery performance.

  • smaki77 Level 1 Level 1

What you cabn do is take it back and get an android - I will be doing that next week - I cannot beleive all the hoops I have jumped thru to try to get this to work only to be told by Apple Care that I am the first person he jhas talked to about a battery problem with the iphone 5 !!!  What a joke - very poor support - I would call them Aplle I Dont Care. I have tried everything - restore as new - on my third iphone 5 - I did get 6 hrs and 18 min last nite - thats the second best I have had - I got 8.5 hrs last Saturday - than all week long only got 4.5 hrs to 5.25 hrs. I really hate to change _ i like the iPhone and am used to it and dont know much about the Androids but after all this hastle its just not worth it. I;'d be willing to ride it out if I knew there was a fix in the makes. But Apple may not be working on one and they may not be able to fix it - this is a major design flaw by them

  • nubgen Level 1 Level 1

Hey everyone, I have the exact same problem as most people here. Super poor battery drain on the iphone 5! My usage I'm getting is exactly what 'jetpic' is getting. Which is horrible! I've spent hours tinkering settings and reading forums/articles.

What I found that worked and helped the most is. Disabling 'Siri' and turning off Siri's location services as well. I've also turned off weather/stock widgets.

I actually found in settings>general>about>diagnostics & usage data>Siri plist. I think it is corrupted.

I set up my phone as "new". Did not do a restore.

  • shimulnov12 Level 1 Level 1

I tell you what guys, "This is total dishonest busienss".

    I drained battery twice!

    restored twice!

    reset few times! nothing works!?

    - why would a phone lose 10-15% overnight when i'm sleeping?

    - why do i need to turn off features for what i have bought the iphone 5?

    - Siri was out in 4s, why we need to turn off siri? location service, wi-fi ,blue tooth or whatever the service a phone should provide?

    - Did we buy the phone to look at its face? 20 minutes of talking costs me 5% of charge.

This phone can't handle the basic operation without draining battery. it is worth no more than 50 dollar in chinese market. been an apple fan since iphone 3 mates, but this is dishonest business.
