Q: iPhone 5 battery draining very fast

I purchased my iPhone 5 64GB today, I used it for about 2 hours and a half. The battery was 98% when I purchased it. Is anyone having this difficulty as well? Please let me know....

I am having the same issue.  I got 2 phones - one for myself and one for wife.  Wife was a straight out new phone and first iphone, mine was an upgrade and restore from my computer.  Her phone lasts all day and mine is dead by midafternoon.  I checked usage and I have used 1 hour today and have 5 hours and 18 minutes standby.  I saw an earlier post about the issue being related to upgrading from a previous phone, but not sure why taht would make a difference as setting up my wifes as a new one didn't require that much different to do and I put virtually eveything from my phone on hers. Just wanted to add my voice to the crowd of people stating that they have an issue with battery life and hope it gets resolved quick, especially as I can't find a car charger for it as of yet.

Are you satisfied with your battery life? Is it an iPhone 5?

    IPhone5 fully charged @ 8:00am.

    1. Took it to work.
    2. 4G/LTE is always enabled
    3. GPS is always enabled
    4. Siri is always enabled
    5. Used email very lightly (usually phone is just sitting there because I am working)
    6. Listened to talk radio via app on the IPhone5 for 3 hours nonstop while working.
    7. Continued very light email usage (usually phone is just sitting there because I am working)
    8. Battery is at 36% now (3:57pm).

Apple's Battery Spec Lists the following:

    http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html

    Power and Battery4

    • Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery
    • Charging via USB to computer system or power adapter
    • Talk time: Up to 8 hours on 3G
    • Standby time: Up to 225 hours
    • Internet use: Up to 8 hours on 3G, up to 8 hours on LTE, up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi
    • Video playback: Up to 10 hours
    • Audio playback: Up to 40 hours

Seems to be draining a bit fast doesn't it?

Went from 42% battery life to 36% battery life in 30 minutes, and during that 30 minute time, I never used it.

My iPhone 5 goes from 100% charged to shutting itself off in under 3 hours.

    1. 4G enabled

    2. GPS enabled

    3. WIFI enabled

    4. SIRI enabled

I stayed in one location, checked email about ten times.

Upgraded from iphone 4, restored from backup.

My battery is draining so fast. This is a big bummer. I can't use it for more than 2-3 hours.

I am so irritated with the iPhone 5. I will likely return it tomorrow. I barely use the phone, never watch videos, rarely play music. Minimal talking and texting. Moderate email checking and web use. The battery dies about 4pm (unplugged at 8am after all night charge), when I am heading home for the day. Today, I decide I will remedy this by taking the cord and plugging the usb end into my iphone 4 car charger that has a usb port. Nope. Won't charge that way at all! I know the usb port charges other things, just not an iphone 5. The att store said they don't have car chargers yet, nor do they have adapters yet. Even if they did, this battery drain is unacceptable. I don't want to turn off all my features and dim my screen to save the battery. What is the point of having the newest, best phone if you have to turn off all the features? SMH.

Watch the difference between my new iPad and my iPhone 5.

    iPhone 5:http://i46.tinypic.com/20h9hes.jpg

    New iPad: http://i49.tinypic.com/ifwsxi.jpg

I know we can't fairly compare both, but the fact is there is **** of a difference between them 96% vs 79% for the same use time. And new iPad was standby longer than my iPhone 5.

    Very disappointing...

You mentioned that your gps is always on. If it is true then the problem is the gps. If you see a purple arrow at the top right of your device it means you have an app using your gps. Gps ***** a lot of battery. Find the reason why your purple arrow is always ON and make sure to disable the app using it. The gps should only be used when needed , not for no reason.

    Hey Guys,

yep experiencing bad battery too... but did a couple of charge cycles and it seems to be getting better.

only thing i did didfferent is that i turned off passbook updates in cellular... that seem to help a little, though not sure... i got 5.5 - 6 mins on wifi before losing 1% battery... but still losing 10-12% battery over 7hrs... weird.

this is my usage so far, let me know what you guys think:

    Usage: 3hrs 17mins

    Standby: 10hrs 48 mins

    Call Time: 1hr 48 mins

    battery life at 49% atm

    Notifications set to minimal

    GPS is minimal

trying to run it down it down for another cycle (will be my third).

its getting there but not as good yet... but will update if anything changes after the next cycle!

If your usage was mainly on 3G/LTE, IMO this is good! 49% for such usage seems quite fine. I have gone trough my 3rd cycle charge too, hope that'll help. I'll keep you guys posted.

nope that was on wifi. its the 10-12% overnight that gets me... something must be running on the background... but not sure what.

thanks for the quick reply though appreciate it! : )

Pleasure is mine dude! Yeah I admit 10-12% overnight is not normal. I was getting really much better battery life with iPhone 4. I have not tried to "Restore as a new iPhone" yet. To be honest, I don't see how it could fix that issue... I will wait a few days and if it does not get better I might give it a try since there is nothing else to do...
