lavetta - thanks I will wait for an update and exchange as you suggest if that doesnt help....

    worried it is hardware though....

  • atlantis79 Level 1 Level 1

It seems to me that it is both.... My iPhone 4 with iOS 6 on drains a lot faster than it used to but nowhere near as fast as my iPhone 5. Exchange at will I say

    Lavetta. Thanks that's helpful.

I live in HK too so it's good to know u tried at IFC store. I hope it is software too bec if it is hardware we need to act ASAP to exchange. Actually where does it say we have one year to exchange it? I also got my ph thru Smartone.

(Update: I experimented using 3G only yesterday ie. lte off and basically got decent battery life (20% left by 9pm - if u can call that decent). So I think it is the lte. But that's the whole pt of me buying the 5, to use its lte (which is indeed super fast). Today is experiment #2: lte on.

Ps. I wiped and restored firmware yesterday before experiment (as per tidbits article)

Thanks Atlantis, I also got mine through Smartone. Wondering what the exchange policy is like, I went to Smartone twice to be told I had to wait for a software update.

I asked if I could go directly to Apple Store, was told no.. Could be the rep telling bs...

I Cannot believe this hasn't been solved. I also cannot believe I am considering taking my iPhone 5 back and getting a galaxy SIIi.

THe issues don't end with battery life. I also have an issue with the cams flash, it will periodically go out of sync. So when I take a picture in the dark, the photo is black. Only fix it a full reboot, most annoying.

Then today whist using the App Store, I cannot click on an app, it just loads a blank page.  I checked against my iPad and that's working fine, so it's definitely my iPhone.

IM really disappointed in apple right now. If I get an SIII, I'll also be selling my iPad 3 and getting a galaxy tab2.

IM going to give them another week and if its not fixed or at least publically addressed, then ill be getting the SIII.

I never thought I'd see the day, I'd be considering saying goodbye to apple

OH and maps is worse than I thought. We were trying to find somewhere yesterday, by foot and there's not even an option. Bring back google maps while you work on your own bloody alpha ver of maps!

I'm sorry to say that after many years I'm falling out of love with Apple over the poor battery and considering other suitors!

If only they'd make some statement about it like they're working on a fix then I could make an informed decision as to return my IP5.

    Hello everyone!

I've been reading this thread from the beginning to the end.

I have been an iPhone-user since the iPhone 3G, which was the first iPhone here in Sweden. I've actually never experienced such bad battery life as the iPhone 5.

I had about 6-6 1/2 hours of usage on my iPhone 4, somewhat the same on the 4S and on the 5 the maximum I've gotten is around 4 hours.

After trying everything, restore as new, cut off everything and so on. I acutally think that I've found the perpatrator in my case.

I'm usually always on WiFi, either at home or at work. So I tried to turn of cellular data while on WiFi at home during this weekend.

I've found my battery lasting REALLY longer.

Usually I have these stats(even though it's swedish you all should recognize the texts):

But today I have these stats (been to a birthday party and about town so I haven't been on WiFi all day, no WiFi = cellular on):

I'm not sure but this could be a solution for all of you that have tried almost everything. Turn your Siri, Location Services and Push on again and try this. Let me know if it works out!

I was appalled by how fast my battery was draining and how HOT my new and first iPhone got (iPhone 5.) Yesterday it drained completely within four hours after I read these threads and turned off as much as I could.  So I did a "restore" last night.  Today at first blush, the iPhone 5 is running much cooler and very little batttery drain. I have lost 3% in the last seven hours, not that I was doing much.  I am thinking there was an anomally in the iOS 6.

  • edchangmd Level 1 Level 1

It took me 3 days of doing everying, including reset as new phones twice.  The battery kept draining until I turned off find my iphone and icloud.  There has been a definite improvement, at least the phone can last for a day now.

Everyone on this thread must have gotten defective phones. I have a 64 gig white iPhone 5 and the battery life blows away my old 4s for instance I take off my computer Round 7:30 am and by 12:30 it's still around 94% the mail is on manual push,no wifi on as I'm a ups driver and it would constantly search ,no blue tooth, LTE is on,most notifications are on including Siri. Maybe these people complaining are Samsung plants. I can't believe if this was a problem it wouldn't be addressed by Apple. They addressed it with the 4s with a software update in iOS 5.1. Just a thought

  • Realmaverick Level 1 Level 1

You're an idiot. I hope you drop your iPhone 5 down a grid.

It ****** me off when the same usual clowns, who were fortunate enough not to have problems come and troll. Stating that it must be our own fault or even better, that we're plants. Your a nob.

Anyway today im at 90% battery with 1 hour 45 min usage which is very good.

I turned off Apples new ad tracking BS.

General > about > advertising > limit ad tracking: Turn it on.

General > about > diagnostic and usage: set to dont send.

These two changes have so far today given me a great battery life. But as its not even had a full day yet, I don't want to count my luck yet. Anyway give it a go and see how you get on.

  • advertbandit Level 1 Level 1

    thanks will try that..

also wondering.. (and this may be a red herring or a clue) I'm on o2 in london and in general>cellullar>mobile I have no option to turn off LTE - its not listed, but a friend on Orange does have this option and he made a significant jump in battery life by turning it off. I know this has been mentioned before but I didnt realize that some phones have different settings than others depending on the provider.

  • JLAU133 Level 1 Level 1

I think the option LTE only shows up if the phone is on LTE Network. I am on 3G Voda here. I can only see 3G option instead of LTE.

@Realmaverick: your options do help preserve my battery life as well. Have you also tried turning off the "system services" under location?

  • RAFREEB Level 1 Level 1

Tony, your input is unhelpful and accusing those who spent this much of being "Samsung plants" is ridiculous. I don't know how much of a profile you can see but, I'm sure if you checked you'd find most all of us have for some time now been LONG time Apple product owners. I was very happy with previous products. Just because YOU got a phone that works beautifully doesn't mean everyone else who didn't is a "plant" That's a narrow and narcissistic way to look at this issue and even if that's what you thought, there's no benefit to posting that here on this thread. It's off topic totally. This thread is for those of us having problems with our iphone 5. You are not having problems so why are you here? Unless it's to stir up problems and derail the thread which is the only reason I can see for your eroneous and negative remarks. Since you are not having any issues *good for you* perhaps your time would be better spent addressing other things. I am sure UPS has some problems you can take part in fixing.

I've stopped turning things on and off on this phone. Apple DOES know there is an issue "Tony" they are calling me today and have contacted others. I don't think they would go out of their way to try and ascertain what the problem was if there was no issue and we were all "Samsung plants"

I hope the tracking they do on my phone is helpful but, I am not using it much now. With other new phones I'd have bought a few new apps by now etc but, I'm not sure if I'm keeping this phone so it's not getting much use right now. The battery life is better than when I first got it due to recharging and keeping certain features turned off but, then what's the point. It also still doesn't get as good as what my iphone 4 did in the past. Still really disappointed with this device over all. However,I AM going to wait for some kind of upgrade. If that doesn't fix most all of the issues the phone is going back and yes, Tony I wil probably get a Samsung though I think their customer service is horrendous, most of the owners of those phones seem happy with them. Next time Apple does a release I will just make sure I wait a while before I purchase. This was my first purchase with them on a brand new release. Usually I wait a couple of months before I buy wanting to make sure any bugs are out. Live and learn.

And I am NOT saying Apple will not address this. I think they are trying at the moment BUT I'm not convinced it's enough. I am not convinced there shouldn't be a recall. There were huge problems with Foxconn and this launch and the two issues may be related. It also could just be the IOS. We'll have to see.
