If they do drag their feet and then say the 30 days is up, I will never buy another Apple product nor will I sell Apple to others the way I have done in the past for so long. In fact this fiasco lead me to tell my sister to hold off buying both a new laptop for now and a new phone. That's two devices and almost four thousand dollars before tax with the configuration she wanted. Apple has had a lot of things going for the company with some drawbacks but, if this launch glitch isn't handled well it could cost them long term. If it IS handled very well most people will forget all the hassle of this and be happy to buy again from Apple. I've been an Apple apologist in the past but, not over this launch for the iphone 5. It's too expensive for me to cut that kind of slack.

I think Apple will fix this issue.

If the S3 has similar issues then it's time for consumers to stop buying these new releases completely. From anyone. For me this is the first time I ever bought a new release and it will surely be the very last. The only reason I did it this time was I did not have a cell phone at all due to my 4 being stolen. I'm not a wait in line for the launch type of person. I want to see if there are any issues and let others have the day one devices. But this is becoming such a habit with new releases, it's silly. The public is paying for testing out new devices that should work properly out of the box. Testers should be paid.

My battery life has been poor since I got the phone but today it's been insanely poor. From 100% charge to 40% in the course of about 2 hours. No phone use during that time. As a matter of fact for 1 hour of it I was in a class so my phone was just in my purse and it was down to 55% when I came out of the class. It lost another 15% by the time I got home a half hour later.

So what your suggesting is turn off all the functionality we all paid a lot of money for! I returned mine to the apple store today and have returned to my 2 year old iphone 4 which, when running alongside my iphone 5 had over double the battery life

So now I returned the galaxy s3 I live in new york and Im going crazy dont know what phone to get iphone 5 battery is sh---t ,  galaxy video is horrific when watching movies or using cnn app to watch video very choppy and breaks up a lot. Hope this helps you where all in the same boat man i'm without a phone now because I just returned my galaxy S3 because of very poor video play back quality compared to the iphone. I have experienced this as well.  Not impressed overall.  Should have waited longer...

Looks like the Apple press conference to reveal the iPad Mini is set for next Tuesday, October 23rd!

In my opinion, Apple has one week to at LEAST acknowledge this issue!  Otherwise I think it looks VERY poorly on them to do business by just pushing ahead with a new product when they have even at least ACKNOWLEDGED the HUGE problem with the last one that just came out!

    Come on Apple, man up!

I must have gotten lucky cause my battery is awesome!! No heating here neither. I used my phone today to play golf w GPS on. Been off the charger almost 12 hrs and I'm not even on 50%!

12hrs of usage?  I highly doubt that. or just 12hrs of being unplugged?  That sounds more likely!  Check your Settings, General, Usage!

I have got upto 2 days of standby or "off the charger" on mine ONCE before, but my actual usage during that time was only about 4hrs, which is terrible.  Just had to plug mine in just now, I got 22hrs of standby, but only 4hrs 22mins of actual usage out of it.

And I've never had the "heat" issue that people have mentioned on mine, charging it gets a tad warm, but not anything more than any other device charging.

Im guessing this is not normal my phone is absolute rubish.

  • Dizman7 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Did you reset it?  I did the hold sleep and home button reset on mine once and when I turned it back on I noticed it reset the usage to 0/0 like you see

Dizman, has Apple called you? I hope they do because your experience is similar to so many and it's important to note that sometimes on stand by the phone will stay charged longer but, other times you can have it sink like a stone! I've had it drain twenty percent in fifteen minutes of usage before OR I've had it last a bit longer but, over all it's really bad. It should have been at least better than the 4 and it is not. My 4 never drained on standby hardly at all if ever! I could watch TWO movies in a row, make a call or two, turn the phone off for a flight and land with thirty five percent or more of my battery life left depending on what else I did. AT LEAST that much left.

With the five there is no way on earth I'd get that much done.

I hope this press release for any new products includes some updated info on the iphone 5. It worries me that some people are saying they got great battery life. That means it is probably not the OS! This phone has some great features but, away from a charger I would not want to use them much. I love Siri but,...I'd turn it off if on the road, same with a lot of other functions. I was used to streaming radio for hours without a worry. Not anymore.

I'd feel a LOT better if Apple would make some announcement about a fix or an exchange program or something.

Ok it said 6hrs of usage. I've been on it all day, unplugged at 630 am. I text like crazy, fb, browse online, etc. I let it drain down pretty good first day I got it. It was  only was 55 when I activated. Next day at work was my first full day and you know everybody is glued to it. I work 24 hrs shift work and I didn't need to plug it in till I went to bed 16 hrs into my shift. Like I said earlier never gets hot!

I gotta say I've very disappointed with the battery life. I know I'm a heavy user than most (8 e-mail accounts - 3 of them push and the rest fetching every 15 minutes along with every one of my apps using location services and push notifications and iTunes match) so I expect my battery to drain faster than the average users' iPhone 5... but the drop in battery is staggeringly fast. I have LTE enabled, and I keep hearing stories where if you are in an area with poor LTE coverage, the phone will revert to 3G but spend a great deal of battery life trying to find an LTE signal - but I'm not sure how accurate that is. My phone will die in LTE mode within 3 hours - guaranteed. That just never EVER happened on my 4S. Sadly I don't want to return the iPhone as I do love it but I sure hope a software update can help with some of the battery issues.

I just wish that Apple would come out and make a statement of wether they are working on a fix or this is just how the iPhone 5 is going to be. Then we can all make a decision to return our 5's for 4s's or keep out P.O.S. iPhone 5's. I can't believe they aren't even acknowledging that there is a problem.
