Oct 20, 2012 11:32 PM in response to mhabashyby BlueX,Here's what I recommend: I deleted my iCloud account and this fixed up to around 50% of my battery drainage issues. The other half comes from fully charging my phone then letting it drain COMPLETELY to the point where it shuts off. Then, leave the phone in charged up around 2 hours after it hits 100% charge.
This imprroved battery life from 4-5 hours to 6-7 hours for me.
You don't have to turn cellular service off, but it might help to close all apps manually by double tapping the home key. I'm still running tests and I have about 10 days left to return this phone to the verizon store.

Are u using LTE or 3G when u say 6-7hrs usage?
-
Oct 21, 2012 3:16 PM in response to iMeichowby BlueX,I left LTE on for the most part. The battery still drains around 3% every 3 minutes in screen on time and 10% for 5 hours of standby even with all my apps closed. The battery should not be this bad... I've read reports that this might be due to having a low signal and I get around 2 to 3 bars here on verizon.

Oct 21, 2012 5:02 PM in response to mhabashyby zcuda,My battery is draining at unbelievable rates as well. i have had 4 other iphone models and have never had such a problem before. Every one is posting usage and standby since last charge, but the usage is misleading. if i look at my usage since last charge it says 4 hours and 47 minutes which is also the same figure for my lifetime call usage. the figures are not resetting so these figures are not daily, but cumulative. I was only on my phone 33 minutes today and used less than 30 minutes of data time. my standby time is 12 hours and i am at 32% on my battery. i never went below 70% on my battery on all my other iphones.

Oct 21, 2012 5:25 PM in response to mhabashyby JLAU133,I am not sure if anyone would agree with this. After weeks of using the phone with different pattern and usage behavior, my phone seems to do the following:
Stand-By: 1% drainage every hour
Usage: 10% every hour
I tried the 'stand-by' test by observing the pattern every night before going to bed and the next morning (around 7 hours) i.e. 90% to 83%
Usage is rather different. It slides down faster. I tested with conference call for full 1 hour (straight) on the phone for a few times for the past few weeks. Approximately, 10% would give 45min to 1 hour. Same as browsing/social networking for full an hour.
So if I use the phone straight after full charge, the stand-by and usage count cycle would start at the same time. In general, the phone gives me roughly 9-10 hours usage hour.
Phone is on 3G network and all notification is ON except icloud sync (only use Photo stream, document and data and Find my phone). So it doesn't really restrict me to my usage behavior pattern.
would love to hear folks' comments here after weeks of using the phone (i.e. stabilized pattern of usage behavior vs the battery level).

Oct 21, 2012 5:58 PM in response to JLAU133by JLAU133,Some correction:
If the phone is on stand-by without using, let say for a day: it will consume 20%-24% battery level already. So it leaves around 76%-80% battery level for full usage, which is roughly 8 hours max.

Oct 21, 2012 6:15 PM in response to mhabashyby zcuda,i just noticed something, i went into my settings, general, then about, and went to diagnostics and usage. under the report i kept seeing low memory, so i clicked on it and it shows almost every application being used even though i had just recently turned my phone off. it appears that none of my programs ever close so i did a double click of my home button and sure enough, every single one was still open, i had a heck of a time closing them out, my keyboard was not responding to the touch to close them with the minus sign which has been another constant problem.
-
Oct 21, 2012 7:25 PM in response to zcudaby JLAU133,happened to me once where the minus sign is not responding (phone is thinking). It forced me to restore the phone as new. Most likely ios issue.

Oct 21, 2012 7:35 PM in response to JLAU133by Hawk815,Has anyone else downloaded carat? I did so and was paying close attention the the memory used portion of the app. One thing I noticed was thar no matter if I closed out all of the apps the usage never seemed to go back down on my phone, however on my wife's iPhone hers would always go back down what is the cause for this issue

Oct 22, 2012 3:43 AM in response to mhabashyby smawani,The culprit is the new Facebook integration.
Go into Facebook app -> Account Settings -> Notifications and remove all the ticks you see there.
Mine is just working fine!!!

Oct 22, 2012 3:48 AM in response to mhabashyby Joe Z in VA,It's based on user's usage. If you download a battery application, it estimates how many hours you have to use the iPhone.
Example: GPS navigation is 1 hour and 45 minutes but may be less based on using cellular data like Apple Maps or Motion X GPS Drive that lowers it to 1 hour and 30 minutes estimate based on a full download of navigation.

Oct 22, 2012 10:33 AM in response to BlueXby Hawk815,This is very aggravating, I seem to experience the worst battery drains when I'm not not wifi, this is my second phone and this is really starting to concern me that apple still hasn't stated this is a problem. I hope they do something soon I have two iPads and have bought four iPhones, but this may be my last. Come on apple

Oct 22, 2012 11:50 AM in response to mhabashyby Toddw911,I deleted the Facebook app and I have now 50% battery after 3.5 days. I think there is either a problem with the app on the iphone5 or there is a problem with this app and the restore from backup. I'll try to reinstall as soon as I see how long my battery will last.

Oct 22, 2012 4:41 PM in response to Toddw911by Hawk815,I don't think it's the Facebook app that is causing it, I know several people that have iPhone 4 and 4s that are experiencing the same battery drains.
