Q: iPhone 5 battery draining very fast

I purchased my iPhone 5 64GB today, I used it for about 2 hours and a half. The battery was 98% when I purchased it. Is anyone having this difficulty as well? Please let me know....

Yea, I agree. I went and downloaded Waze. It's a great free app with traffic updates too!

Let's not digress to maps, ok. There are other threads dealing with that disaster.

Getting back to the battery issue, for the people who are having problems, do you see excessive items logged in Settings > General > About > Diagnostics & Usage > Diagnostic & Usage Data?

When I initially had problems with installing from my iCloud backup I had zillions of items there.

Right now I have just 3 from MyFitnessPal crashes.

I think before it was logging there endlessly causing the battery to drain and for it to run hot.

When I first had my phone there were numerous items logged there. After I did a DFU, there were none, but I still had the same battery drain problems. Recently, however, the items have been returning in large quantities.

What kind of items are they? Can you tell at a glance?

I have about 15 or 20 things but they are spread pretty evenly across the last 5 days.

right now I have the following:

    - three that are of the type "awdd_<date>_consolidated....."

    - one that says "latestcrash.plist"

    - and eight from one app that keeps crashing on me (just started today - never happened before)

a few days ago I saw a few other apps in there. They appeared to have gone away.

Most causes for the battery draining fast is because of the brightness. All you need to do is go to your settings and turn it down. That should help. Also using the apps can drain batteries too.

I'm reporting back on my test. This is after resetting my iPhone 5 as a new device (instead of restoring from my iPhone 4 iCloud backup) and syncing my apps, photos, music, etc. back in from iTunes.

I did not turn off cellular data, but I was on wifi most of the time. I went out for shopping and cycling for about 2.5 hours during this period.

My brightness level was about 75% of max.

I have 7 email accounts. Push is turned on for 2 of them and manual Fetch is set for the remaining 5.

With 1% battery remaining I had:

    Usage: 8 Hours, 28 Minutes

    Standby: 1 Day, 9 Hours

I used the iPhone 5 normally since the last recharge - browsing, checking news, reading email, watching some YouTube, etc.

Screenshot available if anybody wants to see it. Please note, I'm not discounted other's problems. And I can imagine the carrier can make a difference. I'm just providing what I did to fix my "running hot and draining quickly" solution as another data point.

M.Love, been there done that. No it's not "brightness" in this case nor am I or a lot of other people leaving apps running. I NEVER had battery issues like this with my iphone 4 and I left the brightness up on that phone all the time.

Thanks Doug for your update on your test.

It's been over a month and I have had the same issue the first couple of weeks. Since then, I have discharged my phone 5-6 times. Seems like that helped and now my iphone 5 last longer than my iphone 4! Still not sure if its the solution though.

By the way my battery drain has come back even with cellular data off.  It's not as bad as if it's on but the battery life still *****.   I also noticed that my phone stopped auto locking itself some times, although it just worked now from the settings screen.
