Q: iPhone 5 battery draining very fast

My model is MD300B. I do have battery issues.

So its not a batch issue since everyone here having a different model number..

If you are having battery issues can I make this suggestion. If you work in an Office enviorment can I suggest you bring your charger with you; close down all open applications by double pressing the home key twice; plug your Phone in for a full day and leave plugged in. Even if you want to use your phone leave it plugged in and it will increase the battery strength. I would suggest then leaving it plugged in for a full charge that night and closing all open applications. This has worked for me.

My model number is MD296C and I do have battery issues. I just checked my model number, opened one app for two seconds and closed it right away. Went down two percent just doing that. 

K Connolly good suggestions but, if you travel for work staying near a charger constantly isn't an option.

Model ME041J. I don't think it's draining excessively since I did the reset as new + sync of content from iTunes. But it's still just been a couple of days.

These don't correspond to the Apple support page on model numbers, so I guess they mean something different.

This maybe completely unrelated but here goes.

I've never plugged my iPhone 5 in to any PC or Mac.

It has zero songs and the videos on it, were downloaded from the iTunes Store in my phone.

I don't use iTunes wifi sync and never have. Yet when I just visited this page, it actually said "sync will resume when blah blah is available". The name of my friends PC, which his iPhone has never been plugged in to.

However the iPad I own may have. But I doubt that's relevant... Hmmm

So I plugged my iPhone in to my MacBook Pro and it stated that this iPhone was synced to another library and asked if I wanted to delete and sync. Odd. I clicked yes anyway but it didn't proceed.

I have tried ticking and unticking sync with this iPhone over wifi but it continues to want my friends PC.

First of all I have no idea how this happened and second, no idea how to stop it requesting my friends PC.

Whether this is related to my battery issue I don't know. But it's certainly odd!

I had the battery drain issue.  I was completely freaking out because there was no way I could keep this phone if the battery was going to go from 100% to 0% in 4 hours of standby.  I think I have read every post in this forum thread and I compiled a list of "this worked for me" posts to try and trouble shoot what's up with my phone. The frustrating thing is that I believe there is more than one issue going on and what works for one person doesn't work for the next.

I have found out what it causing it for me and fixed it. I wanted to share what I found in hopes that it will help some of you.

My situation: Got my phone, restored from back-up of 4s, experienced rapid battery drain.  Googled around a bit and read that the 4s restore was the issue so I just used the reset all option on the phone and restarted as a fresh phone.  Seemed to help for a while (read until I got my phone all set up again).  Visited Genius Bar, they did a DFU.  Seemed to help for a while (read until I got my phone all set up again) then the battery drain began again. Panic set in and I began to obsessively read these forums trying to figure out what was going on.

Possible issues:

Radio antenna – one person would say they have bad reception in their location and that’s why it’s draining the battery. Very next post would be someone with 5 bar reception and still getting battery drain.

LTE – if you don’t have it or don’t have good coverage then the phone will continue to try and connect and drain the battery

And then the post that fixed my particular problem with the battery drain issue: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20120909#20120909  Exchange email set up to PUSH .  I read this and thought “hey, my work email is coming thru exchange!” I had it set up to PUSH on my 4s and it was never a problem but I’m desperate, so Saturday morning I changed it to FETCH once an hour.  All of a sudden my phone battery was acting as I would expect.  I went all day Saturday and Sunday without a recharge. Sunday night my stats were 4hours 9 minutes usage, 1 day 10 hours standby and I stil had 36% battery. HOLY CRAP!  That was quite a difference from going to bed with 100% battery and waking up to a dead phone! 

Went to bed last night with 100%. Woke up to 100%.  At 755am I turned PUSH back on and immediately experienced battery drain, went from 100% to 66% by 9:30a.  Turned it to FETCH and again battery back to normal, it’s 1055am and my battery is still reading 66%.

I get 2-3 bars at my house. I did not turn off anything else, Siri, locations, Bluetooth, notifications are all what I would normally have them set at.

Anyway I hope this info helps some of you.  Good luck in your quests to fix your battery drain issues!

Last night during the storm I didn't get very many bars on my phone with LTE off, two bars. I charged my phone to full and turned LTE on to see what would happen. When the phone was fully charged. I set it aside on standby. Two hours later I picked the phone up and looked at the battery life. It had gone from 100 percent to 54 percent in two hours on standby!!!!

I cannot have this go on anymore. Apple hasn't released a fix and I need this phone to function as I was told it would when I bought it.

I didn't have PUSH turned on or anything else and have been running the phone with LTE Off however, I don't see this as a long term option. If the phone is suppoed to have certain functions at the price it cost me then those functions should be expected to operate. I feel lied to.

I've set everything I could to "off" that might affect my battery life, set up as a new phone and done all the "testing" Apple should have done before this release FOR them. That is baloney. We should not be beta testers. I was understanding about it for a while but, now I'm tired of the whole thing. I don't mind paying a higher amount for something that functions with a cost equal to features. This phone doesn't do that! It should have cost less than half what I paid for what it does and doesn't do so far.

LTE or not, there's no excuse for losing 50 percent battery life on standby on a phone of this supposed caliber. NONE. Apple should take these phones back and replace them with phones that function as advertised. End of story. If they don't. I am not going to be confident buying another Apple product again. The excuses for these issues are growing tired and old. The amount of work and time we've all put into this is ridiculous. We arent' getting paid to beta test. We paid them money and then had to take OUR time working to solve thier faulty devices issues. Done and done. I'm going to see if Virgin will take mine back. I need to know my phone will function as advertised. This one doesn't. It's too much money to have to go through all this with the device and that's the bottom line.

In the never ending bad battery saga I've noticed that my phone stopped auto locking itself regardless of WiFi or cellular connection.  What ****.

You are not having much luck, are you. I feel bad since restoring as a new phone seemed to fix everything for me.

By "auto locking" do you mean automatically going into standby mode? The display always stays on?

Dumb question, but is Auto-Lock by chance set to "Never"?

FYI: Not only is 6.0.1 out for consumers but 6.1 beta is available now for developers...
