Q: iPhone 5 battery draining very fast

Like I said earlier, I've experienced a DRAMATIC increase in battery life per charge on my iPhone 5 after I downloaded iOS update 6.0.1 (10A525) yesterday.  Prior to the update, I got about 5 hours of usage on a charge.  Afterwards, I now get about 4 TIMES THAT.  And I haven't turned anything off.  I've been phoning, browsing the web, listening to music, working with calendar, etc.  After 9 hours of continuous use so far today, I still have 57% left to go on my last charge. So I'm consuming only 4-5 % of the charge per hour now with moderately heavy usage, including wifi and 4G. 

Try installing the LATEST version of the 6.0.1 update and see if that helps you too, as it did me.  It seems that the earlier version of this 6.0.1 update didn't fix the battery problem, but the currently available version does (at least for me).

To see which version of the update you have, go to Settings-> General-> About and see what you have listed for "Version". It should be "6.0.1 (10A525)".

STUCK2012: Battery problem is solved for me after downloading update 6.0.1 (10A525) yesterday. I now get about 20 hours of usage per charge instead of just the 5 hours I got before the update.

It should be noted, I am using ATT and a white 32GB iphone 5.  I wonder if its isolated to a network.  Seems like some aren't having the problem and I wonder if the issue is across all cariiers.

So despite my battery getting better after 6.0.1 it's back to utter rubbish.

Some days it's better than others. Some days is 5 hours and others its 6-8 but usually nearer 5.

I'm pretty much done. I have a galaxy S3 arriving tomorrow and ordering a Nexus 4. I think it will be a toss up between the two.

This will be the first time since the original iPhone release, that ill own a non Apple phone. It's a sad day but I'm pretty disappointed in Apple. No public acknowledgment is possibly the worst part. We've stuck with this issue now for 2 months and kept hope. And they don't even feel we deserve an explanation? A promise this will be resolved? I just don't understand how they believe this is OK.

The battery, maps, early retirement and replacement of the iPad 3 etc, its all stuff I don't believe would have happened under Jobs and if it had, it would have been acknowledged.

My iPhone 5 is also with AT&T and is 32 bit model, black. Now getting about 20 hours usage per charge AFTER version 6.0.1 (10A525) update installed yesterday. Was only getting 5 hours before the update.

REALMAVERICK - it might be useful to know if your version of the 6.0.1 update is listed in your Settings->General->About as "6.0.1 (10A525)".  That code in parentheses might be the key to the diference between your experience and my experience with this update.  Perhaps it indicates that I have a more recent version of the 6.0.1 update than you have.  That's the code of the version I have, which seems to have solved the problem for me. Have gone from 5 hours usage per charge to about 20 hrs usage per charge since early yesterday. Today, after being turned on for 11 hours with moderate phone, surfing, map, calendar usage, both wifi and 4G, I now have 53% of the charge still available.

I downloaded the 6.0.1 (10A523) and my battery started draining fast.  How can I get the (10A525) version on my phone?

Maybe I'm picking at straws here but maybe the difference is the restore vs upgrade. I.e. if you did a restore from new vs just updating.

I have 6.01 (10A525) and am getting 8.5+ hours of usage at least.

MARK DAVIS - to download the latest update, go to Settings->General->Software Update and your iPhone should check for a later update than what you have, and if there is one, it should then install it.

TheWrongStuff - I did an update, not a new restore, to get to iOS software version 6.0.1 (10A525).

Happy for those with improved battery but I am on my second 5, with the update version mentioned in this thread, and get 5 hrs max. Usually 4 and change. Have done the restore and reset setting thing too. Going back to the store for my third try on Monday. Fwiw--am on Verizon.  Coworkers have exact same phone, o w on Verizon and one on AT&T. No reported battery issues for them.  I am at a loss for sure.

I read this about the difference between the two 6.01 labeled versions:

iOS 6.0.1 is compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 4G, iPod touch 5G, iPad, iPad 2, ‘The New iPad’ (iPad 3), iPad Mini and iPad 4. The build is marked as 10A525 for iPhone 5 and 10A523 for rest of the iOS devices.

Deepspringer - When I goto check for update, it just tells me "your software is upto date".  I guess since they are both 6.0.1 it doesn't care about the (10A523 or 10A525).

Oh, thanks Doug.  I guess I have the latest version then.  Oh well my phone still sucking up the battery.
