iPhone 5 lte signal/reception problem

I picked up my Verizon iPhone 5 today. When it's on 3G ill have full signal (5 bars) and the Internet works great. When I go into settings & change to LTE my signal will drop down to 2 bars. And this consistently happens in different cities. Why is this? Does anyone else notice this on their iphone 5? I tried resetting and turning the phone off and on and still same problem. It even goes as bad as 1 bar of reception on lte.

Thanks

iPhone 5, iOS 6

I have spent 11 wasted days of my life on this, so I promise you will hear back from immediately to either report HW swap is broken as well or that it was succesful and my LTE is finally working properly. Thank you for contacting Apple to report your problem as well. I hope everyone else experiencing this problem also calls Apple to report what they are seeing.

I totally agree. We should all call and report this so that they may work on a hardware or software resoloution faster if they see this complaint.

One thing I noticed thow the average iphone user would not recogonize these issue as they just use and are not tech savy as us, I have compared mine to others and they say they have no issues and when I ask them quesitons there what i thought they were going to say and there like thats not normal..

I cross my fingers for your HW replacment, I really would like to see the resoloution of this..

Re: VZW, agree 100%, but I truly believe that the Apple tech I spoke with actually searched their open case database and found *no* other reports of this. He spent a very long time searching cases and escalations. I was truly shocked by this, I expected him to see hundreds or thousands of other cases given how serious an issue I was seeing on both of my iPhone 5s with LTE.

Haha, that's funny...but seriously....DO THAT! lol. There are definitely other people out there with this issue, I just think they don't know how to describe it. There are single posts scattered on forums everywhere about it, but we need to get it centralized. I'm going to see if I can email 9to5mac.com or cultofmac.com and get this thread some attention there.

You missed #0. I had to find the Fedex # first. The Apple suport page didn't list it, so I wasn't even sure my swap went out in the mail, but it did (overnight - 3PM delivery - Direct Signature required)

0. Search fedex.com for Tracking by reference number (your apple replacement ID) and your zip code

1. Oct 2, 2012 7:56 AM ***************, MA/On FedEx vehicle for delivery

Got my iPhone 5 on Verizon (I switched from AT&T finally) and been testing it out in the DC Metro Area. I must say right now, I couldn't be more disappointed. I never seem to have more than 2 bars of LTE service even standing outdoors. I was in a building yesterday and couldn't even get 3G let alone LTE. I am stunned how often the phone reverts to 2G or 3G service. I understand it in the subway tunnels to a certain extent, but standing in an open field with 300+ feet of open space in every direction and having barely 2 bars of LTE seems really subpar. I even ran a speedtest right now sitting in my office with 2 different apps and even though I have 2 bars of LTE neither of them showed speed of over 1 Mbps. I don't know if it is my phone or if its the network but I am not happy with my experience right now so far.

I went to the Genius Bar and they had no knowledge of any complaints about this issue. Of course the phone worked perfectly when I was there. I called Verizon the next day and they couldn't give me any explanation. The Verizon tech called Apple who said they think its a network issue and that was about it. The Verizon tech then said they would have one of their network engineers call me which still has not happened and its been several days. Been dealing with this for over a week now. I guess I will try calling Apple and reporting this issue to them directly and call Verizon to ask if they are ever going to actually call me back.

It's always the same story, "This is the first reported case.". It may be a service issue, and it may be an Apple software issue...or even a little of both, but we need to raise awareness of the issue. Thank you for reporting your case to both VZW and Apple. I have sent tips to cultofmac.com and 9to5mac.com hoping they publish an article, and I advise you all to do the same. The larger the number of people sending them tips on the issue, the more likely they'll publish it.

800-MY-APPLE - open a case - "Genius" bar is a waste of your time. My HW swap arrives today, will let you know if it fixes my problem. My phone did not work right at the "Genius" bar even with 4-5 LTE bars and they told me that it was VZW's problem and that my phone looked fine hooked up to their Mac, which was garbage. When you open your Apple case, please reference this Support forum thread.
