Q: Find Friends not accessing Contact list! Help!

My son's ipod touch 4 has a glitch with Find my Friends. When adding frinds, in the request line "to:" field there is no little blue "plus" circle to allow choosing from "contacts".  When typing in contact names or emails, none are recognized.

This app is installed and working perfectly on both my wife's and my iphone 4, as well as my daughters ipod touch4.  We all have unique apple IDs. I set up my son's identically, and it does not recognize his contacts.  I tried deleting and reinstalling app with no success. Tried shutting down and restarting ipod. No luck.
