New iPhone 5 volume issues

When iPod volume is set to mid range and no music is playing the system sound is mid range even with ringer volume turned up to full. Then when the iPod is set to full volume and no music isolation system sounds are at full even though ringer volume was never changed.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Just wanted to add another to this list of this bug: iPhone 5 Alert sounds very low after using Siri. I even had Verizon send me a replacement phone thinking it was a hardware issue. Upset about the bug but glad to find out I'm not crazy. Well, maybe I'm crazy, but I'm not the only one with this issue! Thanks for posting. Lets hope we get a solution soon.

Same here, no resolution after 6.0.1 update. I don't even think this is on Apple's radar. Apple "geniuses" don't care about this issue...I've asked. Here are my steps to re-creating the problem:

1. Reboot the phone normally (just to get a "fresh" start).

2. Turn up the phone's ringer volume and notice the volume of alerts and keyboard clicks.

3. Activate Siri and ask for the weather.

4. Double click the home button, swipe right twice to get to the audio volume slider.

5. Put the audio (iPod) volume slider in the middle.

6. Notice the volume of alerts and keyboard clicks.

7. Double click the home button, swipe right twice to get to the audio volume slider.

8. Put the audio (iPod) volume slider on the far right (max volume).

9. Notice the volume of alerts and keyboard clicks -- they should be barely noticable now.

** 10. Reboot the phone to get the alert volume working normally again...don't use Siri unless you HAVE to.

This is really irritating as I SOMETIMES use Siri when I'm getting ready for work and I want to know the temperature outside without having to stop what I'm doing. Then my alert volume is messed up until I reboot.

Sometimes, after several low-volume alerts, it will all if a sudden start working at the correct volume again. But once you use Siri again, it goes back to the same issue.

I know complex software is going to have bugs/issues. I understand that. But what is really disappointing is that when I talked to a couple different people at Apple support, they claimed they had NEVER heard of this issue. Despite there being threads all over the Internet about it.

So after the recent 6.0.2 update (again) failed to resolve this volume issue, I took the phone back to Apple.

My first visit -- brand new iPhone 5 with iOS 6.0:

I was basically told by the "genius" that there was nothing wrong with my phone and that I needed to do a restore (and not from backup). I was reluctant because I've had my iPhone backup going since the iPhone 3G, but finally I broke down and did it. Restored to a clean iOS 6.0 and the problem was still occurring, so I threw my backup back onto the phone.

... 6.0.1 comes and goes without fixing it ...

... 6.0.2 comes out earlier this week and I update...but it STILL doesn't fix the issue ...

My second visit -- same iPhone 5 with iOS 6.0.2:

I told the "genius" that I had been in before with 6.0, tried the restore and it didn't work, so I waited through 2 OS updates that both didn't fix the issue. I was reproducing the issue to him in a loud Apple store, so he said not to worry about it and that he'd swap out phones for me to (now) rule out a hardware issue. I'm a software developer, and everything about this issue screams software, but there's always a chance. So I leave the Apple store with a new iPhone 5, and did a "restore from iCloud backup" first-thing. Since yesterday I've been using the phone as I used my original one and I HAVE NOT encountered the weird volume issue yet. This includes using Siri, plugging in headphones and plugging in my car's AUX (headphone jack) cable, and turning my ringer volume up/down and silent on/off.

SparkNotes:

1. iPhone 5 with iOS 6.0 had volume issues.

2. Got rejected at Apple genius bar.

3. Restore didn't work.

4. 6.0.1 and 6.0.2 didn't fix it.

5. Second visit to Apple store, left with new iPhone 5.

6. Restore from iCloud backup.

7. No issues for 18 hours so far.

@ apple, they know.

I went to apple store to complain that the side button did not increase the phone's sound.

The "genius" immediately knew what to do.

He opened Music, pressed play, increased the volume of the song, closed Music.

Bang, the phone's sounds - text messages, email, all work.

So, apple knows about this or the "genius" would not have known how to solve the problem.

Of course, this is a workaround. If I then lower the volume in Music, the phone's sound also

Goes down.

Software issue.

What you describe is most definitely a workaround. It is in no way, shape, or form a solution. (i believe we've already described it on this forum.) If Apple does indeed consider that the solution, they are crazy.

I'm still holding out hope this gets solved in a future software upgrade. However, just because the "genius" knew what to do does not mean the programming folks in Cupertino are aware. :(

It's definetely a software bug. I've already reported the issue as a bug and an Apple developer responded me that the bug is already tracked under bug id 12391987.

The original bug is still open (the issue still appears with the latest beta of iOS 6.1). I will inform you as soon as it is marked as "fixed". I think the fix will be included in one of the next betas of iOS 6.1 and then of course with the final 6.1 version.

Headphones. At least the default ones that come with the iPhone 5. Take out the headphones and *poof*, like magic it works. None of the other stuff matters, believe me, I spent all afternoon trying. Set the accessibility to default back the way it was, turned the music volume down to nothing, popped out the headphones, sent myself a text, and lo and be-hear, incoming text tone. Put them back, same issue. Take them out again, it works. Do it three or four times, always the exact same thing. As long as the headphones are in, you'll only hear a whisper of sound from anything except the ringtone. Oh, and FYI, if your earbuds are in your ear, you can hear the tones. Yay Apple!
