You should be able to reset & still keep your data. Choose that option.  Restore without deleting data

This has just happened to me.  I had an issue with an iphone I had had for a few months not even three weeks ago and had to get it replaced.  Now, with a brand new iphone 5 it completely shut off in the middle of the night.  A hardreboot worked at first and so I went back to bed but when I woke up it was out again.  Hardreboot isn't working.  I'm about to restore it but this is really inconvenient.

If the restore doesn't work I'm going to the apple store and pitching a fit. There shouldn't be so many hardware issues with a device like this.

Hi Everyone, this morning I woke to find my iPhone 5  iOS 7 operating system would not come on ,the screen was totally blank " dead looking" ,even though it was in stand by mode and on charge when I put my head down to sleep for the night.

I read here to hold the on/off button & the home button together at the same time to reset the phone ,it worked , but had to keep both buttons pressed down for at least 1 minute. Thanks for the info here guys :-)

Looking at so many comments for the same problem, I have to add mine to. My display went all blue and now its dead locked. This has happened the very next day when my 1 year warranty expired. This is  a bizzare situation to me, I was completely freaked out. After some time it started on its own, but I dont know when it will stop next. Any solution to this?

i plugged my iphone 5 into a car charger and the screen went completely blank. tried charging it when i got home and its blank!! help

Seriously, What should we do that!!! why should I pay 900 $ for iPhone 5 and cannot turn it on!!

Why should it be a big problem! when the phone turned off, it can easily just get charged and turned on again!

Now I am at work, looking for a solution and had my dead iphone5 for 2 days!! how is that possible!! and where is Apple support?????????????

Why should you do what? Not sure what you are asking. If your device is not responding, then try resetting it:

Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Silver Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen displays you should be all set.

Gail, I have a 2 month old 5s  that is doing what sounds like the same thing. it turns itself off after about 10 seconds of watching the Apple logo, I've tried the reset and also tried syncing. when its attached to the computor or charger it continuously reboots itself over and over non stop until you unplug it. Any suggestions?

    Hi travlman,

Sounds like you need to take it to the Apple Store and have them take a look at it. If you have done the reset and it is not helping, then a hands-on diagnosis seems to be in order.

    Cheers and best of luck!
