I can't believe that your phone stopped working properly. You must be cursed!
Did you add any thing or make any changes before it went bad?

Oct 9, 2012 6:22 PM in response to AlwaysLookin4Answersby AlwaysLookin4Answers,WELL..... lol....it was worth a shot... My suggestion didn't seem to really have improved things much... I'm finally really done here LOL! It's just funny at this point. What the **** is this ??? I thought Apple was way better than this. I am a very understanding person but if my replacement phone does this as well....I think I may be moving on.....
Current Use
82%
Usage: 1 Hour 14 Mins
Standby: 2 hours 8 Mins
My usage consistented of facebook, twitter, google chrome browsing, and imessage. Nothing is really turned on. Siri off/ location off / screen all the way down.
It is what it is. Apple....I really really really hope you are actually working on this for a fix ASAP. People should be working day and night to get this fixed. Refunds will be a plenty at the 29th day mark.

Oct 9, 2012 11:37 PM in response to Andy Goundryby George_GRPA,I validated my battery drain being the result of push email setup as exchange. Confirmed that there was no issue on the server side. Went to apple store and all they could offer as a solution was to change push to fetch!!! Time to move on. iPhone 5 goes back. Looking forward to try the android environment, probably with a Samsung galaxy s3

.........My friends with Verizon and Sprint aren't having an issue with theirs. My friend with iOS6 on his iPhone 4S isn't having issues. My ATT iPhone 5 is. Is it iOS or hardware? I still can't say for certain, although I was swaying towards hardware.....hmmm
I have good reason to believe that their towers are having problems similar to the Verizon issue.
Try this...when using lte/cellular, turn of your wifi...Settings/Wi-Fi/Off
Likewise for wifi, shut off cellular...Settings/Cellular/Off
Any improvement?

Oct 10, 2012 4:23 AM in response to Fillyby Tim Pentreath,I'm inclined to think some of the problem is down to cellular data.
A few nights ago I charged my phone up to 100% then rebooted it and put it in airplane mode before I went to sleep. Eight hours later it was still at 100%. Impressive.
Last night I again charged it up to 100%, rebooted it and turned off cellular data. Eight hours later it was still at 100%! I certainly wasn't expecting that... :-)
As I have wifi at home and work I only had cellular data turned on during my 35 min walk to work.
Now, at 1220, thirteen hours after I unplugged it, it's showing 80%. I've made a couple of brief phone calls, listened to a couple of hours of streaming music and internet radio and updated a few apps, ie. lightish usage I guess.
I've been keeping records for quite a few days before this (I typically leave it plugged in overnight and unplug it at about 0715):
Date 03-Oct 04-Oct 05-Oct 08-Oct 09-Oct Time 23:58 23:28 23:18 22:38 20:07 Usage 07:09 08:14 07:11 08:56 07:24 Standby 18:36 15:54 15:52 15:16 12:43 Battery 18% 0% 27% 22% 20% so 80% after 13 hours standby is pretty good. Oddly the usage screen isn't showing any usage and standby figures today, just dashes instead...
Tonight I will do another test, leaving cellular data on (and wifi on) whilst the phone sits uplugged overnight... Of course, that's if I decide it needs charging overnight :-)
HTH
Tim
NB. I have one push Exchange account, two other fetch email accounts, two other fetch iCloud accounts for calendars and contacts. (NB 15min fetch)

Oct 10, 2012 7:43 AM in response to nnarumby A420TuRbO,So its been a week since I had my genius bar appt where the "genius" gave me the generic restore your iphone as new "solution"... If you all guessed it had no effect, well then you all guessed right... heres my usage from yesterday which is about the average I've been getting. I don't even want the claimed 8hrs usage I'd be super happy if I even got close to 7hrs
And heres an even better one /sarcasm from a day or two before . . .
Why can apple come clean on other issues like scuffing, purple fringe in camera and maps ( All of which I am NOT experiencing any problem with) but they are not giving the public any info or reassurance that they are looking into an issue as big as this one. Ughhh I just dont know what to do any more I'm at a loss for words....

Oct 10, 2012 7:49 AM in response to A420TuRbOby Jameson!,Seriously, while there may be 70+ pages in this thread, the problem is not affecting everyone. Remember there are already likeley more than 7 million i5's out there. They NEVER comment on problems that are not universal to all users and probably never will. It's cerrtain that they are aware of the issue though and we can expect a firmware update at some point. Just don't expect it to be rushed out, because that NEVER happens with them either.

Oct 10, 2012 8:02 AM in response to A420TuRbOby whitewater2,Until Engineering/Marketing for Apple release an official statement, no Apple Genius or store employee will ever admit that there is a problem or an issue. This is common practice amongst companies. I work for a very large company (Fortune 100 company), and until an official response is given, (could take months), you can never admit to an issue or a problem, if you do, then people want the fix next day. Usually companies will admit there is an issue when they have the fix near completion.
- Purple flare in camera was addressed by Apple, and also shown in other cameras.
- Maps was addressed by Apple.
- Battery life: People have been in contact by Apple about having battery logging and they are gathering reports, this is shown in this thread and many others. There will be an update to iOS 6 at some point, as to what it addresses, we will have to wait.

Oct 10, 2012 8:33 AM in response to holdregeby Smitty10,So, i got my new iphone 5 on Friday, and when I got it it was at 60% battery.
i went to work , got home charged my phone overnight. when i took my phone off the charger at 7 am it was at 100% battery life. by 10, i went and checked my phone and it was at 54% battery life ( just mad a phone call instagram, twitter and txt msgs) thats all. so i put it back on the charger and let it charge for 2 hours, brought it back up to 100 by 12. 12-1 i went on my lunch and by the time i was done my lunch it was at 80%. i didnt charge it then, but by 3pm it was at 46%.
im supposed to be able to do all of these cool things like watch movies on my iphone its super fast blah blah blah.
if i wanted to watch a movie on the phone that i have now, my phone would die before the movie would be over.
if i didnt bring my charger to work with me, before 5 my phone would be dead.
this is an issue.
someone at apple needs to fix this.
