Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

    Handsful

The "i did that" comment referred to your suggestion to take it back.  I did that.  This is my second one.  BTW, how did you get your music/apps on your phone if you never synced to iTunes, or do you not do that?

Lol well maybe there goes my cellular carrier theory. Have you exchanged your phone yet? Maybe there are some units with bad batteries?

    Phil:

I hand downloaded apps. I don't listen to music with my phone, I use an iPod nano for that (Too hard to run with An iPhone)

I don't think so, for Gmail i think you need to get it setup as IMAP/Exchange to get push working, if you use the gmail button i believe it's fetch only.

Not yet. It's fine on standby. I went to sleep with it charged to 100 percent and 7 hours later it was still at 100 percent. It's also fine on wifi. But as soon as I use LTE or 3G it starts burning battery. So that makes me think its not a problem with the battery itself.

When that spinning circle is going your iphone is using cellular data. Meaning your phone is sending and receiving info with cell phone tower. Anybody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :)

Right and I think this is where Apple shouldn't have worried about making the phone pretty and "AMAZINGLY THIN" lol and worried more about the battery life and tech on the new LTE/4G networks. Well theres always hopes for the iPhone 5S I guess?.....

You have to stay realistic about the phone.  I have NEVER had a phone where the bluetooth didn't EXCESSIVELY drain the battery.  That has happened on every single phone that I have owned. So, i'm not sure if apple claims amazing battery life with bluetooth on but that is something I have experienced since bluetooth was created.

Hmm? Really? I use bluetooth alot and I've never had a battery problem this bad, and gettin super warm after about 20mins of use. And I've used bluetooth with my iphone 4 alot as well with no issues close to this.

I would also like to include that after I did the process below - I also turned my wifi on and went to "Settings/General/Cellular and turned off Cellular Data.  My battery seems more stable right now than it has been since Sept 21st.... Is this all a safari thing? Or a cellular thing?? Or neither and this is just a coincedence? AHHHHHH! lol

*Delete ISPW file thats on your computer

    *Sign out of itunes account

    *Plug IPhone into computer

    *Put Iphone in DFU mode

*Let the software download/install on your phone

*When it is all finished and the iphone pops back up on the left hand side of itunes - leave itunes alone for this next part but keep phone plugged into it.

*Start setting up your iphone as if it were brand new.

*Skip the icloud sign in, for now

*Okay now you are on the home screen ready to use your phone (do not open safari!!)

*Go to Settings/Safari/Turn off everything in that section (Fraud Warning OFF is most important)

*Go to Advanced WEBSITE DATA / And click "remove all website data"

*Go to Settings/General/Restrictions/Enable Restrictions/ and then disable Safari

    *Close that out

*Go to ICLOUD and sign in.  Turn off PASSBOOK and SAFARI. If it asks you to delete items click Delete.

***I also am not using facebook intergration anymore****

Now you can go back to itunes and it should be left on the screen where it says "Set up as new or restore from backup" - I pressed Set up as new. BEFORE all of this, when you hit that, it would sync and it would download "safari safe browsing data".. now it doesn't (Could that have been the battery eater?? we don't know... thats why anything is worth a shot)

If you have your apps in itunes, sync those onto the phone now and download chrome...its a great browser... put that in place of your safari for the time being...when youre all finished... give the phone a hard reset, some charge and see what happens!

this is just another "maybe it'll work thing" - if you're not into that....then don't do it... i'm just trying to help

You're right, but as I have said before, my iPhone 4 and 4S gets 3 days of standby time with Bluetooth on, so I'm expecting such from iPhone 5. As of the moment, I can't get 15 hours of standby with bluetooth on with iPhone 5

Also in reference to what i use bluetooth for is with a Jawbone Jambox streaming music and yes I know streaming will kill my battery as well but like i said ive never noticed this on the 4.

76 pages of postings, has there been any fix for this?   I cant read them all!

I'm in the same boat, the battery life is terrible.  Getting it swapped again for a glass defect, so hopefully the new black 64gb will fare better.
