Oct 10, 2012 4:38 PM in response to holdregeby iphone5rocks,I keep reading this and my eyeballs are ready to pop out! It should be easy for the majority of you to correct your problem within one week max.
If you have a severe battery problem:
1) Wipe phone clean and restore firmware and base software(Apple Store will do this for you)
2) Test phone without adding anything or changing basic setup. Test in wifi with cellular turned off, test with wifi turned off and cellular on, and airplane mode if standby problem. If phone is OK, add your software. If phone stops working go back to step one and add things one at a time until you find the problem.
3) If phone is bad after wipe and restore of base software exchange the phone. Test virgin or stock phone with nothing added as in step 2 and add software if phone is OK.
4) If replacement phone is bad with nothing added to it out of the box, change SIM card to new SIM card.
5) Steps 1-4 should fix the majority of problems. If none of this works exchange phone and SIM card again.
6) If all else fails, Change cell phone provider if you can

7. Return iPhone for full refund and seek alternative.

You don't have a problem with yours? Excellent! Can you provide some info to help all of us?
1. what is your carrier? (att, verizon, sprint)
2. plug your phone in until it reaches a 100% charge. Unplug. Use your phone like you normally do and when the battery reaches around 10%, post a screen shot here of your usage screen (settings/general/usage) showing the usage and standby times.....we'd love to see what your getting.
Thanks kindly!

Oct 10, 2012 7:00 PM in response to holdregeby AlwaysLookin4Answers,For me, I am no longer convinced its the battery. I think it has to do with cellular data. Not just LTE .. All cellular data. My phone has cellular data switched off and wifi switched on - it is draining 1% every 5 minutes with non stop Facebook, twitter, web browsing (on safari), and iMessage.
While its on 4g/LTE it drains one percent (same scenario) every 2 minutes.
So ... Now what?

Oct 10, 2012 7:18 PM in response to AlwaysLookin4Answersby vrs626,Exact same situation that I have. Wifi battery life is fine. As soon as I use cellular data it burns battery.

Oct 10, 2012 7:22 PM in response to AlwaysLookin4Answersby Handsfull,That's exactly why I turned off wifi after charging it today. I want all my battery profile info uploaded to Apple tomorrow afternoon to be as dismal as possible, I'm not sure if they will continue monitoring my phone after this, but we'll see.
I've noticed the difference between Wi-Fi and cellular myself, I know that cellular does deplete the battery quicker, but never at the rate that it has on the iPhone 5 (versus my former iPhone 4S, 4, or 3GS for that matter).

Oct 10, 2012 8:10 PM in response to holdregeby dmarwha,I just got my iphone 5 replaced last night at the apple store. After going through a regular day of use (and a cycle of charging last night) my problems still exist.
The same thing that used to solve the problem for me still work so this may help people (i've posted about this twice before already):
1) Turn off icloud, everything except for find my iphone (safari is the main culprit here)
2) if that doesnt work change mail options to be manual.
If I do both of these i get 6-7 hours of usage plus a ~20 hours standby.
Although I can live with number 1 I cannot live with number 2, hoping for an ios6 update
I'd appreciate it if people tried both of the above to see if ti worked for them.

Oct 10, 2012 8:12 PM in response to holdregeby dmarwha,Also I think having icloud/mail fetch on (even if its set to fetch) keeps it at push...maybe a bug? Reason I think think this is because my phone used 700mb of data the day before I figured out what was happening. Once I did my two steps in the previous post, my use went down to 60-100mb a day.
