Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

Guys i couldn't read all the tread since it's pretty long but i do not have this batterry problem with my iphone 5.

it is better than my iphone 4S for sure and all option is on except bluetooth.

i beleive this could happen because of the LTE  .... the iphone i do have does not work on the French LTE, the phone can go for more than 24H with a normal use on 3G

do you have the option to take of the LTE ?

PS: i did a clean install when i got my iphone 5 nothing from the backup .

God sure would be nice to pull battery numbers like my iPad 3 is pulling on my iPhone 5:

    Usage: 10hrs 8mins

    Standby: 5 Days 16hrs

    35% battery life left.   :)

I know its a much bigger battery but just sayin...

Thats my best guess too..my 3g signal is far worse than my previous ip4.

I also noticed that when i get home and connect to wifi my 3g signal gets even weaker (1 bar) seems like antennas are constantly in a "connecting" mode and that drains the battery (so an ios f* up)

I definitely think its to do with ios6... Although this is my first iphone, I have an iPad 2 3g aswell which I normally got around 9-10 hours usage and standby depended really on how long it took me to use up my 9-10 hours usage if that makes sense but now I get roughly 6-7 hours usage on my iPad 2 since I updated to iOS 6 which pretty much equals my iphone 5..  Also found location services on or off makes little diff to drainage. Note both products are with diff networks too...

My first few days of having iphone 5 were frustrating as my battery was disappearing before my eyes but once I started to use it in the same dosage as my now (unmissed) htc sensation I'm getting by better but still feel there is a problem io6 and batt drainage and think apple should at least acknowledge this 80 odd pages on this on their discussion site. You'd think someone from apple would take time out to have a look......after all one of the reasons I upgraded to this was I was led to believe iPhones have better batteries than most...

Blogger iLounge apparently agrees with our real world numbers while on cellular, I would have to say their tests results are right on the money:

I'm glad macrumors is covering this.. this seems pretty close to what we've been saying.. maybe Apple will pay attention now.

It's not JUST the iOS 6.  I have iPhone 4 and 4S with iOS6 on it and they are lasting about 3 days of light usage.

I just returned from the Apple Store and got a brand new boxed iPhone 5 exchanged for my problematic one.  I'm in the process of charging it.  I did set it up as a new phone and I haven't restored from any backups but I have synced icloud.  Funny thing is that this "new" iPhone has 3 small nicks near the charging port.  I guess I could live with it.  But if this phone shows any battery problems, it's definitely going back for good until either Apple comes out with a definite fix or jumping ship to Windows or Android camp.

Can't argue with that. It's suck it up time on cellular or walk...

    Handsfull,

I thought your phone was working well except on bluetooth. How much use are you getting now w/o bluetooth?

I'm sure my 1st couple of days I was getting less usage so somehow it has improved a little. It's still not good enough. Just thought I'd point out I've noticed my ipad2 batt has went from getting 9-10 hours usage to now getting 6-7 since updating to ios6 which suggest the problem may be ios6 but what exactly is causing it is the question cos I'd hate to have to replace my handset over and over..

Hey, I wonder if this is related to some of the battery problems:
