Oct 11, 2012 10:10 PM in response to holdregeby Mr Helios,it is 89 pages of iphone 5 battery drain issue. BUT, why don't everyone take some simple test on IP5's battery.
In my experience, I tested IP 5's battery in 3 or 4 ways.
1/ 100% battery. Wait overnight. Condition: wifi/ cellular data ON. ( my result was 100% (23:00 pm) to 70% (6:00 am).
2/ 100% battery. completely turn POWER OFF. wait overnight ( this to check do your battery hold power well). My result was that it held 100% overnight. there was no % drain after 6 hours to 8 hrs.
3/ 100% battery at night (or whenever you don't use phone). wait overnight. Condition: Wifi ON, Cellular data OFF. << i am testing in tomorrow.
4/ 100% battery at night. wait. Condition: Wifi/ Cellular data OFF. I am testting tonight. Recently. result: 95% battery. usage: 6 min. Standby 2hrs 6 min. it drains 5 %.
P/s for those who has battery drain issue, please take my 3 way test ( if you want) and post it. Please, post usage and standy time as well.
The reason I write this post that i want to make sure my Ip 5 battery is good or bad.

Oct 11, 2012 10:54 PM in response to holdregeby spyd4r,I've also noticed with netstat some connections that have rediculously high roundtrip times even in good celluar signal strength.. wonder if this could be an other issue.

Oct 11, 2012 11:01 PM in response to MattRStewartby Bellatone,I don't think so Matt. My DNS has never caused any problem ever with any iDevice or other WiFi enabled device I own. Changing these numbers has surely fixed something on my phone which is obviously a bug in the OS. I've never used these numbers on any other device ever. Yet on the iPhone it cured all my WiFi and cellular connectivity issues and fixed the battery drain problem. There is no other explanation why I am getting normal battery life now yet was always having the same rate of depletion as everyone else here. So if I have to change the DNS numbers on every WiFi network I connect to until Apple issues a patch so be it, but after being so fed up with this POS for weeks now I can at least tolerate it now since I am primarily on the same WiFi networks and cell towers, but make no mistake, regardless of any network I was on in the past whether using WiFi or cellular the battery always had the same drainage rate. The only thing that now finally fixed it was replacing the 192.168.1.1 with 8.8.8.8. Why it works I have no idea, I'm just glad it does. If you were getting normal battery life on WiFi consider yourself fortunate because many of us weren't getting it on either. This fixed it for both and I hope it stays fixed, because I've tried everything else as previously mentioned short of performing an exorcism on it and nothing made a **** bit of difference until this.

Oct 11, 2012 11:06 PM in response to holdregeby Yuniverse,Looks like we're doing a quite a bit of troubleshooting and testing for Apple. I hope Apple figures it out quickly. I know they are reading this thread because someone had called many of us including myself.
@Mr. Helios
That's a good tests to run. I've done couple of those with the first iPhone 5 and the result was terrible on #1. I had around 60% after 8 hours of non-usage.
Since this is my first night with this replaced ip5, i will run the #1 test again and consequent tests in days to come. Although the battery seems to be running out rapidly as before, I'll hold judgement until I use it for few more days.
BTW, your #1 result doesn't look good at all. My iPhone 4 (2-years old) and 4S pretty much stays at 100% overnight.

yeah, right now, there are lots of theories as to why we're having these battery problems and certainly many of them may be right and perhaps in combinations. I just hope Apple figures it out before many look to other mobile OS's including myself.

Oct 11, 2012 11:28 PM in response to holdregeby me.craig,I am on my second iPhone 5. Done all the usual changes and tips and turned off everything but what is essential. Still no good. I should note that I get good life on standby and also when using wifi. . . just major drain issues when on 3G or LTE surfing net or doing emails, making calls and so on. Goes down 1% every 2mins. Screen shot below. Also to note is that the battery charges incredibly quickly. Around 40mins from zero to 100%. Quick to charge and drain !!!
Anyone ???

Oct 12, 2012 12:21 AM in response to me.craigby cal3919,Been a week scrambling to find answers for my iphone 5 battery problem that I got on Tuesday.
This has been a crazy long thread but some useful info but again no definite answer to this problem.
Now on to my 3rd iphone 5.
Not that colour should matters I hope.
My first 2 black 32 (bought in HK) has been a dud. 2 mins 1% with same set up and of couse all the things turned off.
Just borrowed my sister brand new 32 gig White and testing it with exact same set up.
Now almost 1 hr, and only 8% has dropped. I really don't understand if is the hardware or the software or just luck.
That’s my 2 cents worth. But thanks for all the good info from before. Sorry I'm not saying anything new.

Tim - you have to restore your phone as new and not install the latest carrier updates, and never click into the About section on the iPhone or it will install the EE carrier settings
I have been running my iPhone 5 with TMobile 2G now for the past 4 days and I'm getting super battery and super standby
Hope that helps
Cheers for this Lee. I'm not sure I'd be able resist the temptation of going into "About" :-) It's like having a sign saying "Don't push the red button"! But it's interesting to know how to do it... I did look into the Carrier Settings file in iTunes but it didn't make any sense to me once I opened the relevant file!
My battery life seems to be pretty good now that I've sent the carrier selection to manual rather than auto as I think it uses a lot of battery searching and switching between networks.

Oct 12, 2012 4:49 AM in response to Tim Pentreathby Phil Rogers,With all due respect to everyone in this forum,
I don't want to have to get in and tweak settings for every time I use the phone. Turn down the brightness? I thought we were supposed to love this bright retina display. Turn off LTE? That feature is one of the main reasons to have the phone. The guy at the Apple store told me to turn off Bluetooth except when it was in use. One of the things I loved on my old iPhone was that I could get in my car, push the button on the steering wheel and make a phone call. Now I'm supposed to unlock my phone, open settings, and turn on Bluetooth first?
This isn't progress guys. And this isn't going to be the fix. Apple didn't promise astounding battery life, IF you tweak and turn everything off. Do all that, and you have the Motorola Star-Tac I had in 1995.
(except it was smaller)
Thanks,
Phil

Since I'm never on wifi, I don't see how this will help me but I'm curious to see what your yielding.

Oct 12, 2012 6:51 AM in response to Keja3600by Phil Rogers,That is just awful performance Keja. Now, if you just turn everything off, stand on one foot, go through three menus and switch on your carrier before checking email, and then IMMEDIATELY turn it off again, you'll be amazed at how long you can extend your battery.
By the way, there is one other big battery saver. If you turn the phone completely off and never use it, the battery lasts forever!
We've got to get a fix here....

Oct 12, 2012 7:02 AM in response to AlwaysLookin4Answersby Aviramyosef,i'm very dissapointing from Apple with the battery issue. i think that the cellular data drains all he battery. if i'm using wifi everything is fine.
