Oct 12, 2012 6:40 PM in response to holdregeby junefromdunkirk,I have a new iPhone also. 2 hours and 44 minutes of usage since last charge and the battery is at 45% . I'm very worried that there is a serious defect in the battery. At least I still have my 4 as a back up. I became so concerned that I decided to check and see if any one else is having this issue. It looks like everyone is having the same problem.

Oct 12, 2012 6:46 PM in response to junefromdunkirkby KentuckyBoys5412,Call Apple. It's a huge issue. They sold us all unusable phones. They need to admit it and correct it.

Oct 12, 2012 7:14 PM in response to KentuckyBoys5412by yozhbk,Guys the best way to fix this, is not to restore from backup. I`m in LTE area and have about 6 hour usage all day with about 14 hours standby time. Thats me using the phone pretty heavy durring usage watching moving LTE browsing mostly.

Oct 12, 2012 7:37 PM in response to holdregeby KentuckyBoys5412,I have to say... This is certainly no "fix" (more like, THEY BETTER HURRY UP WITH THIS BECAUSE IM GETTING A REFUND ASAP IF THEY DON'T!) but...
I completely deleted my iCloud account from my iPhone ... Setting up my icloud mail manually in MAIL. Kept my contacts on the iPhone before I deleted the iCloud account. (No iCloud whatsoever set up on my phone right now)
I also went to restrictions and disabled Safari. No more Safari. I downloaded Google Chrome.
I then did a hard reset - checked my cellular data activity. It seems like nothing is running in the background draining it by the second any more...
I've been on it for 1 hour 30 mins straight (Facebook, chrome, twitter) without putting it down(half on lte/half on wifi) and I'm at 85%... I think this is an improvement .... I THINK..
As I said.. A fix?? **** NO!

Oct 12, 2012 7:42 PM in response to KentuckyBoys5412by KentuckyBoys5412,Yea guys from the difference I'm seeing... One of the MANY battery drain problem has to come from iCloud/Safari. It's like night and day

Oct 12, 2012 7:45 PM in response to Nick Gomogdaby Phil Rogers,Nick,
You must be joking, right? We bought this LTE phone to use LTE, not to turn it off! The beauty of my iphone4 was that I could get in the car, push a button my steering wheel and make a phone call. Now, I'm supposed to keep bluetooth off unless i need it. Thus, get in the car, go to settings, dive into the menus, turn on bluetooth...etc.
Don't use safari. Don't use location services. And on and on. Even though they are features on the phone.
Again, why don't I just dig out my old Motorola Star-Tac from 1995. Really tiny, sweet phone. And all it did was MAKE PHONE CALLS. Which is what is being advocated here. I bought an iPhone because of what its supposed to do, not what I can turn off.
Thanks.

This was at home with both cell and wifi on. I have been using the phone pretty normally with all the normal things back on. 3G, LTE, Location services. I'm sitting at 76% after a full normal day of work, using the phone, sending texts etc. Very similar to my iPhone 4.
Yes, the first thing I checked when I saw the funny "USAGE" count was running apps. I had none of those things. It was only turning off "PUSH" for iCloud that made any significant difference. The change was dramatic. three hours of standby to a full day with plenty of battery remaining. It's night and day in my case.
Yuniverse:
Yes, I'm sure there are several things that can cause this behavior. I can only report my experience. I am firmly convinced my problem was directly related to iCloud and is now fixed. Please note I said to DISABLE push. I have mine set to manual. You said the opposite in your reply.

Oct 12, 2012 8:30 PM in response to Phil Rogersby junefromdunkirk,I wanted to mention how hot my iPhone got the other day. It was unusually hot, I thought it might be because of the aluminum case. Has anyone else noticed this issue?

That's from the CPU being overtasked from the bad OS (iOS 6). Call Apple and tell them it burned your leg so you need them to fix the iphone 5 issues by Sunday night -LOL

Are you on Tmobile as well? Makes me wonder if being on an unsupported carrier actually helps?

No, just the wife's phone. I'm w/Att. The only difference is the OS...iOS 5 works great...iOS 6 well.....

Oops... I did, didn't I? LOL Sorry, I meant to say I turned off Push and set it to manual - on all individual mail accounts.
