Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

Wasn't trying to be crass...just thought to bring a little humor into a humorless situation we're all in.

I liked your reply. You are funny. I guess we are all disappointed with this "latest and greatest" version of the iPhone.

Scroll down to the battery life review by this guy from the popular engadget site and look at the numbers he's saying they got while testing the 5's battery life. How??? Someone needs to get in contact with this guy!

    3g.PNGwifi.PNG

Feature Off: Siri, Email push, Bluetooth, iCloud.

    Feature On: everything except above.

Both are my screen shots. Left one is the result with 3g only(no LTE), and right one is with wifi only. Signal bar was kept between 4-5 except the time screen shots taken.

I guess wifi only has pretty decent usage, but 3g doesn't look good. It seems there are some software bugs, not battery. Hope Apple is currently working to fix it on IOS6.

When you say Icloud OFF? Do you mean you deleted your icloud account? Or you have every single option within the icloud account turned off?

I turned off all the options, not delete the account.

After following this thread for couple of weeks, I happen to ask any authorized apple store I passed by, they agreed that this is a worldwide issue and complaints are piling up. Should we ring the cops and arrest Apple ??

    ok... interesting thought:

    http://www.redmondpie.com/apple-tracks-users-with-ios-6-ad-tracking-functionalit y-heres-how-to-disable-it/

Apple's running ad tracking, perhaps this is the culprit?

mine was set to off, meaning that apple tracks you for advertising purposes. this is a new feature not in earlier iOS's. Perhaps all of us with bad battery were set to off? While better battery life users had already set this to on (stop tracking)?

ill test mine out, as i just fully charged and will use LTE only with ad tracking disabled, let you know if i see improvements over my typical 4 hour usage.

Ok. I've been posting in this thread since the day it began. I got my iPhone 5 on release day and was losing like 3-5% battery life within minutes. I did everything that was suggested on this thread such as dfu reset, setting up as new, conditioning the battery, etc. I eventually just went back and set the phone up the way I originally planned which was from the backup of my iPhone 4. I did do the battery conditioning thing for a week but I've been told on here that it doesn't work. Well as of this morning I am at 11% battery with 10 hours usage and 1 day standby and I'm happy with that. I could barely get those stats outta my iPhone 4. I never got a replacement phone, and I use what features I want to. I refuse to turn on features in a feature phone.

    Wow

Did it just get better?  What do you reccomend?  Really anxious to learn because yesterday with just phone calls and email, nothing else, I only got four hours usage.  Please...let me know what you did exactly since you got the phone?

    All,

Several times I have posted that I had the exact same experience as ebrown711!   This just may work if you leave the darn phone settings alone for a couple of days!   Set it up the way you want to use it, then use it normally and charge as needed.   There's a chance you'll also see things improve as the phone backups and syncing stabilizes.   I'm becoming more and more convinced that a LOT of background activity takes place when you first set up, restore or reset your phone.

    Jameson

I hope you are right.  Here is my day yesterday:

No safari or Siri.  ONLY email and phone.

    4 hours 41 minutes use

    13 hours 15 min standby

    Battery down to 1%

I don't think that's good at all.  And can you imagine what it would have been if I had fired up the web browser?  Or used the video camera?

Jameson - I have tried every single thing that you could possibly try (i think) and things improved maybe for a few percentages (lol) and then back to crazy drain.  SO - I am definitely going to take your advice and just let the phone be. Lets see what happens.

After I just quit bothering it and decided to let the chips fall where they may it just began to gradually get better. My cousin bought hers 1000 miles away from me, had the same issues, left it alone, and it improved
