Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

I really hope it is software problem too. Unlike you or someone can actually turn of those features for the mean time, I can't do that, I'm using my phone everyday as hot spot for work. But as said, nothing much I can do now. I can't blame anyone, just bad luck that is all. And as mention above, 2 known issues are happen same time to me (scratch and battery).

All I can do now is wait for a replacement if that is software issue otherwise I have to consider go back to my previous iPhone 4.

    you'd think a phone that costs $1k can hold a day's charge.

Another update: day three, went to bed with it at 58% after some light wifi use, decided to let it go uncharged (now for 24 hours) and phone is still at 40% this morning. It is definitely improving. I do wonder if a previous member was correct that the battery needs to 'break in'? As well as the DFU restore it seems to be getting better standby power every day. Does drain quick under heavy use, I'd recommend turning off all apps manually.

Just got back from the shop, they plugged my phone in and ran the usual hardware software test, cameback as healthy.

Genius guy said they received an email from apple saying that, it might take a few charges for the batery to start holding more juice for longer, but he could see my point there, as i had a bit less than 2hrs of use today and about 6hrs of standby and my batery was already at 40%.

    He gave me 2 options:

    1. wait a few more days and see if the batery improves, if not go back to the store and replace the phone

    2. replace my phone with a new one today

i've chosen option 2 as i couldn't be bother going back there and waiting another 30 mins stearing at the headphones for a new iphone.

So after 5 mins i had my new phone replaced, now i'm in the process of re installing all apps, contacts, photos... bla bla bla... phone came with 50% charge in it so i'll let it die first before i charge again... will bring more updates tomorrow...

    cheers dan

Restore and set up as new.

I bet you guys with battery issues will be happy with the results.

I know it isnt ideal, but its a new phone, give it fresh data.

    Unplug the phone.

    Turn off phone.

Plug in phone, device should power on, see if it gets to 100.

Couldnt find a IOS version of this, but same still holds.

I'm also having bad issue. My iphone 4s's battery didn't last long either. But after reading this forum, it seems like the battery really should last a full day. I unpluged my phone today at noon. By 8:00pm. It'd dead!

I only used about 1-2 hours max? just web surfing a little bit, imessage, whats app, no calls, updated 2 small apps. Rest of the time it's stand by. I thought it can do 8 hour LTE browsing! No where near that!

I don't want to set up as new phone as I don't want to lose all my text messages.

    prolong life.....schmprolong life.

iphones always get to 100%. hence why it got there after a hard reset.

curious to see if i get more than 4 hours out of it today..

mine was set up as a new phone and it's chewing through juice like whitney at a crack den so i highly doubt that being the underlying problem. an exacerbation of performance perhaps..but not the issue.

Dunno. After reading some of the other stories here I think I may be too critical of my battery. It does seem to be slightly better than first day.

    2% left

    7:14 usage, 14:30 standby

Probably 5hrs browsing and the rest podcast and texts, all on LTE.
