Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

The intergrated Facebook - when contacts are turned ON without even clicking "update contacts" your data goes on the non stop rise

I'm charging up my phone now but the mysterious background data all stopped when I deleted my iCloud account and when I clicked off for Facebook calendars and contacts (in the intergrated version) this is with all other apps closed. I set up my .me email address manually in MAIL and kept my contacts on my phone. If that's what it takes for now.... Lets see. Be back in a bit.

    UPDATE:

After two days, I am completely satisfied that my iPhone is fixed.  For me, definately iCloud.  After turning off iCloud push sync and setting to manual, seeing excellent battery life.

Today I was up in the hills all day.  Crappy cell coverage.  Everything was turned on (3G, 4G, Location Services, WiFi, Mail, Facebook, etc.).  The only thing that is off now is iCloud.

    See for yourself:

    Screen.png

8 Hours and 36 minutes of standby so far today and still have 79% battery remaining.  Again, very similar to my iPhone 4 which is just fine by me.  Before turning off iCloud I was getting no more than 3.5 hours of standby until zero battery.

For all those suffering, I encourage you to try this technique:  Turn one thing off at a time until your "USAGE" counter stops incrementing when the phone is off.  There is a rogue service sapping your battery.  For me, this rogue service was iCloud PUSH.  See previous post on how to disable iCloud PUSH.

    @ajauch

That's good.  However, that's probably just a part of the problem.  I have all my email accounts including iCloud's to manual (push off), and yet when my bluetooth is on, it's draining at around 4-5% in standby.

My replaced iPhone 5 is not working as I hoped.

Funny thing is, when I check on the cellular usage, it only has 793KB sent and 1.1 MB received during the 8 hours that it was on.  I'm not sure if that's abnormal at all.

I did make couple of short phone calls, but as of now with bluetooth on,

    usage: 58 min

    standby: 8:02 Hours

    Battery 62%

    Alex:

Don't want to kill your mojo, but go to page 98.  I have a screenshot their of a heavy use day on a 4s.  Until I see stats like that, I won't be happy. I don't want to downgrade to the iPhone 5.....I wanted an UPgrade.

yea... I don't really think those numbers are so great either. Standby was a problem at first.. within a few days, that went away...My phone can stay in standby pretty well... But when I use it, it drains by the minute. That's the problem.

    TRUST ME EVERYBODY,

    It worked 4 me.

AFTER A DFU CLEAN START AND ICLOUD BACKUP ( NOT ITUNES BACKUP ),

Turn OFF all iCloud syncing except 4 Find my iPhone ( u never know what could happen ) looooool.

General>about>advertising>limit ad tracking..... Set it to ON.

If you r on LTE area keep it ON upon need ( UPON NEED ). If not switch it OFF.

    Full battery charge.

WHENEVER u r on WiFi, switch OFF LTE AND 3G. Just stay on WIFI....

When u r OFF wifi enable LTE AND 3G.

ALL other widgets (location, weather, stocks,Bluetooth ... bla,bla ) use ONLY upon need.

Please don't b upset if u already tried all this.

I just hope this MIGHT b helpful to anybody. Certainly until Apple " comes out ".

As I mentioned, IT WORKED FOR ME.

    Shahd:

Give it 48 hours and check back with us. I've done what you did and it looks promising at first, but then your right back to where you were.

Again, there is no 'fix' available....there's only ways to make it less miserable.  It is entirely in apples hands to make this right.

I agree.  I'm really tempted to just give up.

Yeah.. The dfu wasn't necessary in my case but as I told you the cellular data activity in the background completely stopped being crazy when I just deleted my iCloud account. Set up my iCloud email address manually. (Also clicked off the FB integration features (contacts and calendar) ... Yes it looks promising.. I charged it to 100 did a hard reset and now it's just a waiting game. Like @handsfull said... Lets give it time and report back :)

But either way, whether this helps the battery or not I'm glad there isn't gonna be a gig of data I didn't use on my next bill :)

1 hour 2 mins standby / 1 hour usage. LTE split with wifi(mostly LTE) full hour web browsing 90% battery. I'd be ok with that, I think(?!?) ill be back tomorrow and let you know if its kept up
