Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

the onyl thing i did was drain the phone until it died and recharged via the mains until it got to 100%.

it stayed at 99% for a bit.

    hard reset.

    then got to 100%.

left it on for another half hour after that.

will update tomorrow with latest usage.

Was so happy after 2nd charge my phone hold up real good, lost 1% in 2hrs on stand by and though it has been fixed. Soon I start using the phone again, it back to normal 1% every 2 minutes on use and 1% every 5 minutes on stand by.

My iPhone 5 certainly doesn't seem as bad as the rest of people who have posted, however I'm not convinced its better or even equally matched to the iPhone 4, I'd say its not as good at holding charge and the battery performance is to be fair a little worrying but I'm certainly not prepared to re-install or get a new phone, its just not bad enough to warrant the hassle, I can live with it until hopefully a new iOS comes along. But I would urge ANYONE who is suffering poor battery performance (worse than mine) to phone Apple immediately.. The more people report there issues to APPLE customer services the quicker it will be resolved. There has been some great information posted here initially but posting here now to say you have bad battery performance will not solve the issue.

There has been many people who seem to have great knowledge of the workings of the iPhone and how to maximise its performance in settings etc. and real problem solvers. These people for their best efforts have admitted nothing seems to really work.

So for all of us, PLEASE REPORT TO APPLE!

    Best of luck!

    :-)

Been advised this morning my an Apple customer care advisor to do a DFU reset (or the Trot Nixon as its now known, lol) and left that doing on my lunch break. Once it finished i didnt do a restore of anykind, downloaded a few apps (literally two) over Wi-Fi and that was it. Unplugged it and went back to work.

finished work and checked my iPhone 5 and the battery had already got down to 80% within 5.5 hours?! it'd been sat next to my MacBook doing nothing except on standby.

I called Apple customer care back with my case number from this morning. I was on the call for just under 5 minutes with my headset and i watched the percentage go from 78% to 74% within the time of the call and mentioned it to the guy at Apple everytime it dropped. to say he was surprised would be an understatement.

Genius Appointment arranged for friday morning at my closest Apple store. I just hope they can get it sorted. I'm actually one of the few people that need my iPhone as a phone. so if i cant use app for fear of the battery running out i might as well go back to a Nokia 3210

    10pm battery = 68%

    7:30am battery = 9%

    fatcat585,

Check your usage and see if it went way up since before you went to bed.  I noticed my usage was more then doubling overnight.  It looks like my issue was due to having WiFi sync enabled on iTunes.  After a few nights of high over night battery drain (and seeing a wifi sync error when I woke up) I turned that off and for the first time my phone only dropped a few % over night.

i do not sync over wifi and unless noted in my posts when monitoring battery drainage over time i have no apps launched.

    anyways...

called apple care this morning. apple *IS* aware of users having battery issues with the iPhone 5.

after explaining the battery and heat issues and then verifying that i had performed all the troubleshooting steps that would have been suggested to me i was put on hold and then told i would be able to have the phone replaced.

Restored as a new phone and re-sync everything manually. No problems anymore great battery life. It just ***** that I had to do this and waste countless hours.

I am in the UK and my iphone 5 battery is draining so quickly. I have even turned off all the main culprits for drainage. This is really bad Apple. You need to sort something. At this rate ill be charging every night. Is it iOS6 or the bad battery batch I keep hearing about. Its a good job I dont have LTE on O2 yet, god knows how long it would last then...!!!

So many are reporting Apple supplying new replacement iPhone 5's to remidy this issue, however nobody, as far as I can see has posted to say they have had a replacement iPhone 5 and the problem is now resolved.

Could I ask if anybody has had a replacement and if the situation is now resolved. Because if that is the case, then we should all just receive replacements and avoid all of the ''trouble shooting''.

Hope some answers to my reply come theough, I'm really intrigued..
