That is great... but I am losing battery at a rapid rate... in AIRPLANE mode.
Using the 30 - 45 min useage amount you specified at a battery loss of between 5-9% indicated extrapolates to around 10 -12% per hour which is a range of approx 8.3 to 10 hours.
Not a math wiz , but this should be a pretty good indication I think

he said it was in airplane mode....so that's the BEST case scenario.

That is extreme and of course disappointing, but unfortunately in line with what iLounge test showed with weak cell signal strengh. Just curious have you tried running some test outdoors? I would be interested in hearing how it performs. One thing I did was to call AT&T tech support and had them reassociate my phone on the network, that and a complete reset seems to have made a difference. Based on everything I've read I believe that most of these drainage issues are related to cell strengh and related factors. I hope you can find a good solution

No lemon here Handsfull. I routinely get 7.5 - 8 hours a day. I'm wondering what kind of results would you like to see?

Oct 16, 2012 6:54 PM in response to Echo Stationby Mainmn,I carry a Galaxy 3 in addition to my iPhone 5 and my partner carries a BlackBerry (eww... I know). Both of our iPhone 5's die far before. I get approximately 4-5 hours of my phone's use in airplane mode.

Being inline with the ilounge or anandtech's test results is NOT A GOOD THING. It's a sign of a bad product or OS. My former 4s (and still being used by my wife) is putting out a day and a half plus 8 hours AVERAGE battery life.....every, single, day.
There is no solution that one can execute themselves....it must be initiated by Apple. Period. If you have a flat tire, you can inflate it every mile or so UNTIL YOU REACH THE TIRE SHOP....and there, they will actually 'fix' it. Wait for an iOS update and hope that hardware isn't also involved.
Edit: Because you have a phone that operates within spec means everyone else's phone is wrong because of something they did or something that is under their control?? Tell me, I'm on my 3rd iphone 5 that has been set up as a new iphone with NO BACKUP.....yet, I'm pulling the same dismal battery life on each and every phone, that no one can explain....maybe you can?

Oct 16, 2012 7:09 PM in response to Echo Stationby MattRStewart,@Echo... If I could get your usage stats I would be happy too. But unfortunately I, as many others, are getting no where near that. I get a max of 4.5 hours of usage before my phone shuts off. A smart phone with these features should be able to last at a bare minimum usage throughout business hours. If I can not take this on the road with me for work, then *** do I need it for? Can't use email because then I need to recharge before I get home. Can't check websites for research, because I need to recharge before I get home. Can't make too many text messages because then I'll have to recharge before I get home. etc etc etc.
Maybe if the OS was designed better for swipe down access to user options (like wifi, cellular, etc) then maybe, just maybe i would turn those features on and off [but with a disgruntal and unhappy attitude]. But im not about to pretend I am happy with my downgrade from an iphone 4 to an iphone 5, just for an extra inch of screen realestate and to get the added joy of navigating through settings app every time i want to do something and need to turn on/off different cellualr, wifi settings.
My settings on iphone 4 and iphone 5 have not changed (except for the LTE and Siri options), see below. With iPhone 4 I was getting minimum 8 hours usage, most days 10 hours (plus additional standby time). With iPhone 5 I am getting 4.5 hours maximum usage. That....is a HUGE downgrade.
- Bluetooth turned OFF
- Wifi ON (although 90% of the day not connected to wifi)
- LTE ON (in HK I have about 70% of the day in a good 5 bar signal, rest of the time it is split between 3 bar LTE or 4 bar 3G)
- Brightness turned down 30%
- Siri ON (although rarely used)
- iCloud OFF
- 75% of my notifications OFF
- 50% of my location services OFF
- Limit ad-tracking ON
- iTunes match OFF
- Email set to MANUAL FETCH

Of course I'm not saying others are experiencing great results, **** I would love to get better stats too, nor should anyone have to shut off so many features to get the battery life to meet expectations. What I am saying is that I doubt it's a hardware issue, and most signs point to issues with cell signal strengh / connection being the cause. I believe once the first update is released many will see an improvement with battery life, just as was the case with the 4S.
How many who have had problems have actually contacted their carrier? Seems worth a try to me.

Oct 16, 2012 7:49 PM in response to Echo Stationby Handsfull,Agreed, the problem lies with Apple releasing a Phone with no chargers, no adapters for charging, failed maps app in an iOS 6 that obviously has major/big time flaws. Another problem is that there is no word from Apple that this exists, it as if every single Apple employee has absolutely no idea of what is going on. You are not going to convince me that this issue isn't being brought to apples attention DAILY.
As far as bad hardware goes, no one can eliminate the possibility at this point....at least on any logical level (feelings don't count). So until I see a software resolution, I will not be convinced otherwise. Remember, you have 14 days to return your phone before you are commited to keeping it with your carrier (along with their contract....2 years in my case). Tell me, does anyone want another iPhone 4 antenna-like defect and then have apple issue a bumper as their 'fix'??
Not me. No thank you.
