Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

Good point iphone 5, i didn't think of just disabling find my phone (though, i don't recall if i had it off or on in previous testing... i suspect i tried turning everything off except contacts to see what would happen).

Yeah it definitely is.. my mate and i have this argument all the time, i come from a pc enthusiast background, so actually enjoy finding these congurations.. indeed, above everything else, im more delighted i can run my iphone 5 and not loose a drop of function that's relevant to me (i can still use apps, music, maps, email etc WITHOUT icloud).. so i just found a way of function that gives me better without bloat running. So say that they fix the battery life, or create a bigger batter for the iphone 5s. Im still going to be running like this, and get even BETTER performance with no function cost. But that's me.

My mate has the save view as you and likes the richness of the built in stuff, and the default settings for them all etc. Each to their own.

.. To meet in the middle, the strong points of change are, there is technically bloat in iOS now. There are advertising related tracking features built into to the OS which have the potential to consume battery in their running and encroach further into user privacy. Each or both is enough reason to disable said features, which means a post install step, which means theres functions we as USERS don't need, running actively on our phones. Sound familiar?

    - Honestly i've not really taken a point to this in prior phones and touch devices, as the battery performace has been acceptable for my usage. This was definitely not the case with i5, so was urged to investigate.

Again, i still really enjoy that i've now discovered that icloud is actually fluff.. function comes from apps.. contacts i can sync through my desktop (i use icloud on my desktop as there is no impact).. what does it do for me again?

(I guess if you're in apples cloud you don't have much of a choice as my mate is.. that's just unfortunate and maybe you should switch to a different cloud if apple isnt supporting icloud well. Its a forward response to tell people from other ecosystems to not need to do something if its not in apple, well, the inverse should apply also, if icloud doesn't work, use a different one! why use something that doesnt run well on apple hardware, including apple services, lol. Sorry, im a little sore there).

I agree that Carat seems to be pretty worthless. I got a score of 4 for my first iPhone 5 and my second iPhone 5 gets a score of 14. However, the only advice it gives me is when it tells me to close apps that are already closed and deleted from the multitasking bar. The score they give you is just another number to make you worry that your battery is worse than most other peoples'.

Carat checks whats running... If its program issue, then problem solved.  I keep it running to see what exactly is running...  Its largely to see if program is the issue which im guessing not a lot of ppl have.

I do believe its LTE <--> 4G/3G related and it makes sense.  Im currently on at 57% with 4 hours 17min usage, 16 hours 54min Standby with 50% brightness, everything is turned on as well(iCloud, bluetooh, LTE, etc)

Now the phone tries to connect to LTE from 4G, this constant trying to connect to LTE would probably use up a lot of power to connect.  Since people who have took their iPhones seem like they are still having a battery issue, i seriously doubt its the phone itself but the network.  Like what another user said, they did a network reset and it worked for them.  I live in a rather large LTE area(Los Angeles), i get 5 bar LTE everywhere i go so it always stays connected and never ever jumps down to 4G/3G.

So, it could be a carrier issue and not Apple.  I would think if the software was bugged, wouldnt we all be affected?  not just certain people?  of course, this issue can also be solved by apple/carriers but then that brings up another problem of ppl complaining about not getting LTE... so its just gonna go in circles...

People who are affected, may be useful if you post where your located.  Perhaps people who live in the same, or vicinity can confirm both having huge battery issue.  If you live in Orange County, CA near Anahiem(where i live), i have no battery issues where... Anyone close to Anahiem CA having battery issue?

Yes in my original post i stated that at work (strong cell reception) i was getting 8+ hours of usage, while at home (weak reception) i was barely getting 4. Bc home was zero reception with ATT i switched to verizon.   I did do a "reset" and also turned off ICLOUD, and i get GREAT battery life at work, (have t been able to kill battery, yesterday 7:15 min with 32% batt remaining) and acceptable usage at home 7+ hours...

WHAT is the purpose of ICloud btw?

I have poor usage stats as well. Better than previously but still lousy to say the least. Around 5h usage with 13h standby and I'm at 32%. iCloud removed, facebook-integration removed, all location services removed, notifications only for mail, mail set to manual 15 mins.

Second iPhone 5 32GB black model number:

    ND299B

ok so i'm gonna post some piucs(about 5) where you can see the progression as well as the difference between wifi and 3G.lets start with this morning.i was extatic because i had tried a reset again,a full discharge and then a full charge.it seemed like the results were staggering.IMG_0078.PNG

however then i left for work and that was a different story (on 3g ,no 4g or lte here yet)

so the extatic feeling was gone immediatelyIMG_0080.PNG
