Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

What hours of usage and standby are people getting? Mine is defintely wrong as I woke up at 8. The usage was at 7 hours and the standby was at 11. Adds to 18 hours and I've only be up for 12.

Do bear in mind that the "Time Since Last Charge" could just be wrong. My time has accumulated to 20 hours even though I was only awake for about 13.

so because you get decent battery life.people that dont are automatically doing something wrong?

thank you for your genius and insight, how dumb can those thousands and thousands of people be??

since hsuae has a good battery all of us dumb f's are doing it wrong.nevermind my degree in engineering,

just listen to him :D listen,i'm happy that your iphone is great, honestly i would kill for that battery life.but dis you ever think that since u DO have a good phone, and soooooo many people dont, there must be something wrong with either a batch of phones or an ios issue??

its because of people like you that apple gets away with this sh*t

Unfortunately this battery issue is real for many people, from the looks of things there are several different bugs affecting different phone setups therefore why so many people are being affected.

You more than likely have a setup that isn't being affected by any of the software bugs.

Either way Apple still needs to get the fix out, although I get 7 hours 45 min max (with LTE is on) usage there are several compromises in my setup which is not what I expect from An Apple product.

This certainly is a REAL problem for some people.   What we don't know is how widespread the problem actually is.   This thread is 135 pages long but there are far less than 1,000 contributors in it.   Given that 10's of millions of i5's have been sold and far more iOS 6 upgrades have been performed on older models, I would expect a far larger outcry if this were a universal problem.

I, for one, do not expect much of a fix in 6.01.   This all reminds me of the release of the i4s, where we saw much the same thing.   Poor battery life compared to the i4 and little or no response from APPLE.   Unless the problem is universal, like MAPS or Antenna-gate, it is not in their best interest to admit anything.   I know none of you with the problem want to hear that, but unfortunately it is reality.

Yes, I'm one of the lucky ones.   I got my 64gb black i5 on release day and my battery life has settled out nicely, with most everything turned on.   I also manage the wireless program for my company and have 10 other i5 users, with no complaints as of yet.   Doesn't mean they don't have issues, but they aren't complaining........

well jameson,i'm quite sure its pretty widespread,i live in a small city in belgium,my local apple reseller has sold about two hundred i5's so far (because deliveries are scarse) and the guy that works there told me he received complaints from about 80 people,so its not really a small problem in my opinion..i know 3 people with an i5 besides myself and only 1 has a good battery.

Although it is most likely widespread, it's actually not hard for the users to patch up most of the problems themselves with setting changes. Therefore possibly why Apple have been slow to respond.

Actually the bug that caused part of my iPhone 5 battery drain issues was an old bug that came along when iOS 5 was first released, I believe they resolved it in the end as this same email bug is not in the later iOS 5 versions which I still have on my iPad 3.

I believe the fix for the big battery drainers will come, just a question of when....

Again, I'm not claiming that there is or is not a widespread problem.   I said we don't really know.   I'm not sure you REALLY know either, based on hearsay regarding 200 units out of 10's of millions.   I can just as eeasily claim that I have 10 users I manage with i5's and there are NO complaints.   So we don't really know for sure and are both just speculating.

My view is that if it were so widespread as to include more than 50% of the i5's out there, this thread would be much longer than 135 pages.

true but if 80 phones out of 200 way out in a small town in belgium, across the world, have a problem i'm pretty sure its pretty wellspread ;-)

The amount of posts on this topic are completely irrelevant. I know 4 people with the same issues (two on older iPhones and two on the iPhone 5) they don't know what apple discussion forums are, let alone read and post on here. 90% of people have no idea what this website is. I believe it's widespread but DEFINITELY not affecting everyone. So I have no idea what it is but even if it is affecting 100 people. Something has to be done about it. The people that I know are waiting for ios update as a fix. If it doesn't bring them a fix they are saying bye to apple. How many times does this have to happen?? How can they not get it right after ALL of those previous ios fails. It's crazy to me. I just want them to release ios 6.0.1 so we know what's up. That's all. It's definitely more wide spread than this message board and some people just don't open their mouths. They deal with it and hope for a fix and if no fix, then they decide whether to get rid of the product or deal with it. I'm not dealing with it, or taking off everything that makes an iPhone 5, an iPhone 5. Absurd
