Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

I made a mistake. My 5 hours is over 3G, not LTE. We don't have LTE as of yet in Belgium.

So when LTE is rolled out, it'll only be worse.

And after a year of using the phone it'll be even worse. What, 3 hours LTE? lol

After the update to 6.01, let the phone "settle" out for a few days.   Use it as you normally would and charge it as necessary.   Refrain from doing any resets, restores, etc., etc.....   When you first set up or update a phone, there's clearly a lot of background activity taking place, especially for those with iCloud accounts.   This takes some time, but will stop when everything is backed up and properly synced.

THIS IS NOT THE ANSWER FOR EVERYONE, but it has worked for many of us.

I really hope Apple opens a store in Belgium. And I hope it happens soon. I will be in that store asking for a replacement every single week. Apple can't just take our money and turn their backs on their faithful customers.

After doing the upgrade, early results are pretty good. I didn't get all the way to a 100% charge due to rushing to work.

Charged to 98%, 15 min of usage and 2 hours with 3 min stand by. Still at 98%!

I know it's not a lot of usage, but it hasn't gone down at all in stand by yet! This is with LTE enabled.

    Update to 6.0.1

Not good it already went down 2% on 4G with NO USE since my last post....

    That is 2% on 4G on standby in 2 hours....this just *****.....

EDit:  I did not have LTE enabled....just cellular, so I just turned on the LTE...see what happens

No change here, battery life is still terrible. Doesn't look like this update will have any impact on battery performance.

I also just upgraded to 6.0.1 yesterday... I've been monitoring the battery drain pretty closely for a few weeks, and noticed a change earlier this week, before the update: I left the phone plugged in almost all day Monday (in case we lost power because of Sandy, I wanted to have a full charge!). Tuesday, I started getting reads consistent with 5.5-6.5 hours on LTE. Not what I was hoping for, but better than 4!

Today, 6.0.1 installed - walk to work, two YouTube vids streamed over LTE and checking emails, etc: 100% charge through 25 mins of usage. Now it records 1hr 13mins of usage, 4hrs 51mins standby and 90% remaining. Except for the LTE usage on the way to work, all is over my office wi-fi. I want to test over LTE this weekend, but even on my office wi-fi before I wasn't getting much better than 4-4.5 hours a day per charge. 8+ hours would be a huge improvement - though, I'm skeptical. We shall see...

I installed 6.0.1 last night before plugging it in.  So far today, I'm at 97%, which is 10-15% better than I've been any other day at this time.   Looks like wifi changes may have made a huge difference.

    @marine8

I've been as critical as anyone of the battery life, but your post makes no sense. 1% drop per hour on standby is completely fine. At that rate your phone would last for 100 hours on standby.

1% per HOUR?   Sorry, but that is NOT a problem.
