Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

What is STANDBY mode for Apple? No calls, notifications, internet, music, brightness, etc? No nothing? How do you make this possible? I followed ALL the battery saving tips, and even in Airplane mode (which turns your iphone into an iPod Touch) I can't get 100 hours...

    225 hours???

Could somebody from Apple EXPLAIN how to get 225 hours?

I think you need to go back and read the thread a bit, learn how to associate groups of people into more than yourself and everyone else . I was clearly agreeing with you earlier in the thread.

I don't get your arguement with "You guys are resetting, restoring, turning stuf on, turning stuff off..."... Thats the point of settings, to get the desired effect?

Its like saying "You guys are being so bad using that light switch to turn that light on and off".....

Goldfilm, the phone will enter standby mode if simply left alone. I get upto 100 hours with most things turned on, you will need to have a look in your crash logs to find your issue.

Settings > General > About > Diagnostics & Usage > Diagnositcs & Usage Data to see if you have a lot of crash logs with similar names.

Or take your phone back to Apple for them to take a look.

Jameson: While I agree about the battery being not much different than the previous ones on a more hardcore device = draining ....

Why did my iPhone 4 have incredible battery life until the IOS 6 update?  It drained for those days that I had it on there (a week before I got my iphone 5) at the same exact rate as my Ip5.  I understand that ios 6 is alot more power hungry ... but... isn't there something off about that to you?  Doesn't that seem like some sort of software thing if my IP4 battery that was in perfect condition started draining at the exact rate as my ip5 currently does? I don't know.. I guess what I mean is that, I feel like it doesn't HAVE to be this way on the ip5.  I feel like something COULD be fixed within the software... How do you feel about this? I'm seriously asking your opinion.

Player8 you are right but this is Apple Iphone not Android

I am not going to do any troubleshooting for a $600 phone such as Apple

    Tim Cook is a loser.

Just an idea. Since i am having so many issues on 6.0.1 here is what i think

Apple should allow to go back to the previous version that was installed on the phone. Like in my case go from 6.0.1 back to 6

Why is it so hard ? Apple just crippled me right now. All i am saying is that for Apple to allow to go back to whatever previous version was installed on the iphone. How many times i have seen people that have upgraded and have all kind of issues. Thousands of times. I am not saying go back like 10 versions ago just the version that was previously installed.  I think that if that was allowed would help a lot of people.

This is nothing new. People have wanted to go back to their previous software for years when a new one comes out and there are issues. Apple is not going to allow you to do this. You either should replace your phone or return your phone. There's no fix for this. If there were, we'd know what it is by now. We either have defective phones or this is just how it's gonna be. With that, do what works for you.

I can't hazard more than a guess....   Maybe, regardless of what model iOS 6 is put on, it includes the logic for dealing with LTE, even though the older models don't work with it.....  Thus requiring more power?   Just a pure wild guess...

Been testing the phone all day, by now i am sure is ios 6.0.1

Like i said on 6 i got to the point of me understanding that i have to take the pain and patience that Apple did not have.

That is running the iphone 5 with cellular off for 3 days and only connecting to wifi and only making calls and browse an still have 10% battery after 3 days. You guys now see my point ? The iphone had became a ipod touch hybrid except that it can make calls it was not definitely a iphone anymore in the true sense of the word

Now the same phone that i did that test i am now typing this on is getting only 3 minutes per 1% battery drop on wifi then there is someting definitely wrong with ios 6.0.1 not with the phone

I went even further and did a full restore to ios 6.0.1 and same bad performance

something is definitely wrong.. I realize that my battery drains an average of 1% for every 1~2 mins whenever i turn on cellular network for browsing, it drains slower when i'm on wifi. Asides from that, internet browsing on safari tends to drain faster as well.

Guys, perhaps you can download google chrome and give it a try.

Serious, i'm browsing this forum on google chrome.. Just a 1% drop while reading, writing feedbacks.

If i were to do this on safari, i'm sure it will be like 5~7% gone by now.

I'll try Chrome as well... Used to use it all the time before upgrading to iOS6. Still though, just in the time it took to write this, I'm down 2%.... I'm gonna hate it but, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do a complete DFU reset tonight. Sounds like some of you have had success with this.
