Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

For your exchange accounts disable Calender as an experiment to see if it helps, do you use Calender much?

Apple.. Please rectify your battery issue before introducing any new IOS VERSION to end user.

This is because whatever new features that you integrate will be meaningless if the battery keeps draining tap water.

We can't utilize the features without a good battery life..

I spoke too soon. Last night I decided to do the DFU firmware restore and it seems MUCH better now. After charging last night I woke up to the battery still being at 100%, which is the same behaviour my old iPhone 4 used to exhibit when new. At 1 hour worth of usage I am at 91% which I would say is decent. That's browsing on WiFi and 3G as well as Facebook, some texts, and a couple of phone calls in a decent (but not great) reception area. A bit of a pain sorting remembering all of your passwords for various quirky apps but in the end it's functioning as I think it should. I was VERY close to taking this back and getting another phone from another manufacturer but, if this holds out as it has so far today, I will be quite happy with it. So, my advice as has been said several times by several others in here, do a DFU mode restore of the firmware and use it as a fresh phone. I went ahead and restored my contacts and photostream from iCloud which hasn't made any difference that I can see and I have had everything turned on, and I do mean everything (no LTE here in NZ so no option to turn it on or off). After 2+ weeks of fiddling and getting a bit p***ed off, I'm finally happy again.

If you haven't tried it yet, do a DFU restore of the firmware, then start from fresh and see if this helps the issue. It did for me and many others but it hasn't worked for everyone. Definitely worth a shot though.

Since the upgrade 6.0.1 but wifi strength in the top bar is never above the first indicator. But when scanning for networks strength shows correctly.

This is definitely a new bug introduced in this build.

Player8: unfortunately I can't  disable calendar...it's not a practical option for me. My work revolves 100% around the calendar. It's google calendar, so I've tried shifting it over to the regular CalDAV via the gmail account setup, but I need the Exchange functionality... Can't compromise that unfortunately.

I have a theory.... There may be two problems, one software and curable via DFU reset, one hardware and perhaps needing replacement. My reasoning: the DFU procedure DID provide what I think at least to be noticeable battery life improvement to my phone. But, its still 30% lower than what apple claims, and what others have achieved. Wifi averages 1% every 3-5 minutes(8.3 hrs on the outside).

LTE is similarly improved.... I'm averaging 1% every 4 minutes (6.7 hours-ish), maybe every 3.5 mins. It's also idling much better, not dropping during prolonged idle periods on wifi. Unfortunately, it still drops pretty bad on LTE even when totally idle.

As you can see, while improved, I still can't envision a scenario where my phone could even approach 8 hrs on LTE. I'm barely hitting 8hrs on wifi... Consequently I'm getting an appointment to take it in and try for a replacement.

I proposed to disable the "Calendar" only to see if makes a difference, if confirmed you can look to the next update as a fix while switching to a certain fetch interval.

Hi guys, i'm sure this battery issue has got something to do with model batch as i have some friends on model md300za did not encounter any battery drainage issue whereby model below ma300za got hit.

By the way, i'm on telco mobile one singapore.

Thus, i'm going to do a one to one exchange instead.

**** sick of watching my batt draining every 2 minutes.

My model number is MD662B (black 64GB) ...?  curious how yours is so different.  This battery life is quite good actually.

My wifes (now replaced iP5) is ND663B (white 64GB), battery so far unclear.... but prior unit sucked - dont know that model number unfortunately.

Seems there are a variety of hardware batches out there..... perhaps some dud batches?

Day and night ... my phone easily lasts 12-15 hrs from a full charge with regular emails fetch over 3G (15min interval - no LTE/4G available in UK yet), some browsing, loads of Kindle etc etc normal usage some calls though not allot.  The usage log is hopeless as I find Maps kills battery for example, where Kindle seems like could go on forever, but they log the same "usage".

My phone was 98 last night 92 this morning and now at midday with some usage @ 72%.  Perfectly accceptable to me.

My wifes phone drained to zero in 3 hrs from full charge when out and about with only a few text messages sent from a full charge over reasonable but not great 3G coverage.  This was the old phone tho and this new one we have yet to test.  I am tempted to setup her phone from my backup and see how it goes.  At mom its been setup as a new phone.  Her old phone was built as a backup of her old 4S.

One other thing my phone often feels cold to the touch whereas my 4 always felt a little warm.

My phone in comaprison to 4S ... at least as good although the performance really depends on the app used... I think maps kills the iP5 , but it was also a battery drainer on the 4S, and I used to charge my 4S every day at my desk at work... I find I don't have to do atht with the iP5... - mainly coz I did have a charger lead at work and now wont bother getting one either.

Sorry u guys are struggling ... I am well aware of it from my wife :|

Just thot of something anyone tried fiddling with location settings?  This could explain frequent contact polling and drain in remote locations?
