Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

There has got to b something that Apple can do about the Iphone 5 BATTERY issue. True enuff this is an Ipad 3rd Gen but these battery numbers are impressive. This is running ios 6.0.1.

Yes. iPhone 6 with a bigger battery.

Based on these findings; do you think Apple will ever be able to sort this out?

That was not the point I was trying to make.. If u notice in the screen shot, my usage in comparison to the battery remaining. Battery life predictions for the iphone & ipad r the same right??? Both r suppose to deliver 10hr of usage (wifi or 4g). With these numbers I will easily get 17+ usage. Something can b done with the Iphone 5 battery but what???

LEECK78, not really sure what that is. I've never read anything on this before, maybe that Carat app can weed out the process that is causing this.

I'll see if I can find out anything.. Not hopeful.

Fixed. I'm happy to report that my iPhone 5's battery life is once again great. Here's what did it for me...

I went to Settings > General > About > Diagnostic & Usage > Diagnostic & Usage Data and there I found hundreds of log messages, each dated about 10 seconds apart. Reading these messages didn't really help, there were references to all sorts of things like Sync, iMessage, CoreGraphics, etc.

At this point I went into each and every Apple setting and turned everything off. I chose to delete my iCloud data and Email addresses off the phone (knowing I would turn them on again and get things back). I turned off iTunes match, iMessage, FaceTime, Siri, etc. After doing this, I checked the Diagnostic logs and the error messages stopped. So, I then turned everything back on. No more error messages and great battery life once again.

At least I know where to look when I suspect something's not right. Hope it's something like this if you're having problems.

While the advertised usage times are the same between the iPad and iPhone, one is over stated and the other under stated.

Even if the iPhone is kept in Wi Fi mode only, I'm not sure you can get 10 hours usage on it.. Even if didn't have any og te bugs..

True that.. Ipad 3Gen has got to b understated then cuz i will blow by 10hr of use.. As for my Iphone 5, its up from 4 to 5hr of use to about 6.5hr since I restricted Safari and start using Chrome. Also I barely use wifi on my phone because of my Ipad.

I was at 85% battery with 1 hour 40 minutes of usage yesterday, much better than my iPhone 4 had.

15% for almost two hours of usage? Not bad at all

    This is mine from today.

The phone was unplugged at 7:30, it's 15:30 now and I'm left without phone until the end of the day. All the usage was 5-minutes long internet browsing every 30-40 minutes.

Player8, any idea of the acceptable range in terms of Usage on celluar, usage on wifi & standby time?

Ouch, there is definitely something going on there. I would take it to an Apple store and get it swapped out.

A good article below on what to expect in the real world when LTE and Wi Fi!

    http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/iphone-5-battery-life-reduced-due-to-lte- signal-strength

I actually logged the extremes (very light to very heavy) of my battery usage (LTE / 3G / Wi Fi) and it's on page 144, link below.

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4329696?start=2145&tstart=0

    Basically using:

    - 3G and with good coverage you may get upto 8 hours of usage, once you've resolved your battery bugs and not too heavy usage.

    - LTE at best will give you upto 7 hours of usage, but that was very light loads and 4 bars of signal strength.. Not really a real world example to be honest. In poor signal areas the phone warms up life will drop to 4 hours.

    - Wi Fi I think 10 hours is possible for me as I'm practically sitting on the router most of the time.

So if that's the case, am I right to say that whenever our 3G/LTE turns weak, our phone will boost up and try to maintain the signal?

Yeah afraid so.. But irrespective of signal strength standby power should not be affected from my observations.

Good read below to find actual signal strength.
