Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

Anyone else by chance noticing an insane improvement today, out of the blue?!

i haven't touched a thing and it's now 12:41 and I am still at 87% and that included streaming bluetooth audio for my 25 minutes drive in and some gaming. i'd usually be in the 40-50% range by now.

it's like my phone is actually functioning correctly today, for the first time in 2 months..

Unfortunately no :( phone is still dropping % with minimal use. I watch the phone just drop literally doing nothing. I have done all steps except for a restore because I don't want to deal with the hassle since I manage my music manually and my wifi can't take another hit of using so much data for doing an iCloud restore. The iMessage problem was fixed last night, maybe it fixed your phone because it was continually pinging that server with no response? I don't know about these sorts of things. Hope it keeps up for you! I wish I could use my phone normally without fear of losing so my battery.

unfortunately i dont think its hardware related.. i am still confident this is due to a few software issues..

when the stars align, you get good battery for that one day.. then it'll be back to crap tomorrow (I sure hope not)

My Iphone 5 battery is horrible ! I can only do 7-8 hours if i'm on standby and don't use it ! I went to apple store and the Genius told me it's normal !! I told him he his kidding me !! I say no, he told me that If I can do 8 hours, it's normal ! I told him that the spec on the apple website told that the battery life is up to 225 hours on stand by! He told me that's theoric and it only be possible if everything is close in the iPhone! Men this iphone 5 is a piece of **** !! It's not usefull to have a phone that you always have to keep the power cord with you ! I'm verry dissapointed about apple !

To those who are saying that 4 - 5 hours is good. That is not good and it should not be a benchmark as I know somebody who hits 10 hours regularly. This isnt through playing music but actually playing games and web surfing,

My situation is this. I get perfect standby time, typically when I leave it on overnight, it will greet me in the morning with 100% which is amazing. Playing games on my phone with airplane mode is also excellent. I got 1 hour of gaming with my last 20% which im pretty sure is very good. When airplane mode is off however, its a complete different story. I will lost %'s rapidly and it can fluctuate between <1 to 3 minutes. Some basic maths will show that this leave me with about 4 hours and this is what I get by being VERY cautious with my phone. The person I know hits 2 - 3 hours with 70% left.

i think you understood him wrong,or vice versa,8 hours standby no use is never normal.i would physically attack any genius who tried to tell me that..

I agree. He must be talkng about usage. 8 hours is normal for those dilusional apple employees. That is what we are SUPPOSED to be getting but in all reality, most of us arent.
