Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

actually I am very impressed by the iPhone 5 battery.  I am coming from the Galaxy Nexus and that would get 5 hours tops 4G usage.  Today uplugged my iPhone at 7am and it's been on for 9hrs and 6 minutes and has 67% battery.  With my Nexus I would have had to recharge by 2-3PM.  It's amazing what Apple can do with such a small 1400mah battery.  My Nexus had an extended 2100mah as well.

9 hours usage or standby? If its usage, I want a screenshot (sorry to sound so demanding)

I'm sure Jrasero doesn't mean that he's been using it for 9 hours on 4G. He probably means standby. Which is easy to achieve.

This is the bottom line of this phone in its current state: using it for 5 mins here and there.. It'll last you.. Consistent straight through usage will NOT and it'll die within 4-5 hours.

Wifi with cellular data off: incredible battery life. Did they make a mistake and think this was an iPad ? I can only use the phone with cellular data off and wifi on if I want it to really last (and it does) but its a phone so that really isn't working out so great :-/

they truly messed up with how this software handles cellular data. That's a pretty huge issue. I really hope they surprise us and one of the updates will fix the battery life, like in all of the past iOS releases. 5.1.1 made my battery completely incredible. I still have faith in this company. I really really think this will be fixed. I don't think it's the phone itself at all.

But anyway yea.. If you are near strong wifi, turn your cellular data off and you got a great battery!

With cellular data off wifi on i can easily get 8-9 hours usage, but with cellular data on even when i connect to wifi i can only get 4-5 hours usage. I really hope apple fix this issue

App store running on background? (No apps running on multitask bar)

Is there a way to stop it?

I also realise that IOS is constantly checking for updates on background. (PID : 90)

I bet Apple sitting back laughing going "Look at these dumb assses. Can't they c by now there is no FIX?" NO FIX, no MAGICAL TRICK. NO 6.0.1, NO 6.1 will fix this issue cuz of one reason. Its one big MARKETING strategy. Think about, after 400 charge cycles the battery will begin deteriorating. U charge the phone once maybe twice per day. That will b the exact time Apple releases a new phone and we run our "DUMB" assses right out and get it..

Something weird just happened. Following one of the suggestions here, I turned off the System Services one by one, my battery was at 95%. Then I turned the phone off and back on and my battery life was up to 99%!!!

Going to the Apple store on Monday, I'll see what the "genius" says.

Ill state this again after my findings. Im basically 100% sure its something to do with cellular data. I got home from boarding school (where I have to use 3G 24/7) and as i connect to the wifi, low and behold:

    51%

    5 hours, 35 minutes usage

    11 hours, 32 minutes standby.

I havent changed anything what so ever. On just 3G, id be hitting a max of 4 hours with 100%....

Are any of you guys having data usage problems? Ever since sept 21 I have been using 5 GB a month. I was using 1GB at most prior to this phone. I am NOT using 5GB a month! I don't have iCloud set up. How is my data being chewed through at this rate?!? Who could financially

Keep up with this!? I have used 1GB in the past 4 days!! The past for days I have mostly been on wifi since the **** phone won't last with cellular! This is just insane!!!! I can't even believe what a disaster this is.

I know the problem now. It is something to do with our cellular network. Like I posted before, when I got home and connected to wifi, my battery was amazing. I had used 8 hours with 30% left.

Today, I had it on wifi until 80% and I had used it for 2 1/2 hours. Im back on 3G now and Im at 4 hours usage at 40 %. Massive battery drain since the switch to 3G.

Something with the network/signal is causing me problems. Not sure what it is. I have the same amount of bars for my signal as well at home. 1 bar indoors but I had no problems.
