Q: iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

my iphone 5 I just got it two days ago.  I already hate it.  I charge it fully and then use it throughout the day.  No facebook, no interenet, JUST checking email and texting!! This is bull!! I can't wait until I return it.  The guy at the apple store said to wait a few weeks to see if the battery life gets any better, but I doubt it will.  No more apple for me after this probably.  I'm looking into LG.  When I was younger I had a crappy flip LG phone (just silver) nothing fancy no touch screens (before smart phones) and that phone lasted me DAYS  compared to the apple iPhone 5.  Piece of CRAPPP!!! strangling myself.  oh steve jobs why did you have to go?!?!??!

    Thanks for this.

I am fortunate to have 2 Iphone 5's  both upgraded from 4 & 4S. The slightly older one gives me 2 days battery but the newer one won't last a day. Yet they are botoh set up the same and probably get about the same use during the day as each other....

    WHY?

Tried all your tips above and hoping it will work.. but am at loss as to the one I ahve had only 2 months runs out of charge at 3pm where as the one I ahve had 9 months goes 2 days.

See the time lapse battery test of the new iphone: iPhone 5s Vs. iPhone 5 previous IOS generation. Go to the website to see the link of the video:  http://info-it.co/2013/09/time-lapse-battery-test-iphone-5s-battery-vs-5-battery -previous-ios-generations/

Is my battery usage good? half of the the time its in 3g (not all apps are allowed to connect via 3g) and half in wifi, i put it in silent mood like 2 hours ago. Location services open for some apps only. used it for like 30 minutes in phone calls and the rest for a messaging app called kik and facebook. brightness is 30%.

The same happens to me, sometimes I dont use my phone for hours and still manage to lose 30 percent on nothing. I wonder whats the cause of all this and if there could be a portable charger or maybe even charging stations for all types of phones.

    It's brutal.

It seems that the battery on some of the iPhone 5 is rubbish.

I fully charge my battery and by 11am I have to recharge. I make hardly any calls but I check mails, read an online paper and maybe listen to 15-30 minutes of internet radio in that time.

My battery has on occasion dropped dead showing 50%, but once it gets to 30% or lower I am resigned that it will simply shut down.

OK - so I can stop browsing, and I can stop checking mails, and I can stop listening to Internet radio, I can turn down the screen, turn off bluetooth, turn off wifi - I can also simply turn off the phone. But it cost me just over $1000 and I expect this bit of kit to work. It's my 3rd iphone and definitely my last unless they fix the battery. I'm looking at a Nexus or a new generation Nokia - cannot be arsed with over-priced phone letting me down constantly.

It's like a Ferrari fitted with a Fiat Bambino fuel tank.

    Hello to evreyone

I have been posting to this site for probably a year and all of it has been about battery problems. I am now confident that Apple pays no attention to anything found in here. This is just a forum to save them having to support users. I am convinced they have no intention to adress the battery issue. After all they are Apple....why should they.

Personally I am fedup and my next phone will not be an Apple product. I will probably go for a Samsung Galaxy. Apparently they are pretty good. I encourage you all to follow suit. It is time to send a message to Apple that we are not prepared to let them get away with it.

Please if you feel the same post it here and encourage others to do so. Spread the news. Perhaps we can make a difference if enough of use start shouting.

The iphone 5 is rubbish.Do you agree?

I wonder how long this will remain posted here?

No I do not agree.  I never had a battery problem with my iPhone 5, nor with my iPhone 5s.

You either work for Alpple or you are one of the lucky few. Read the forum and see how much complaining there is

No I do not work for Apple, and the only ones who post here are those who have problems - most do not.  Mine lasted about 6 hours usage and many more standby which was fine by me.  I challenge you to get an Android phone that lasts longer.  Me, my wife, and my son have not had battery problems.

Turn off push notifications on email, turn down brightness to medum, minimize location services apps, etc.  Try doing a hard reboot of the phone - hold both buttons down until the apple appears.  All sorts of things to try.

There are not a lucky few - there are a lucky many.
