No, it's iOS 6 in general.  I have a 4s and upgraded to the new software and now my phone drains down to 20% while sitting on my desk at work.  All apps are closed and I won't even touch it and it drains 1% every minute.  I seriously hope Apple has a solution to this issue and Fast.

aprilskarp: have you tried any of the solutions presented in this thread?

  • aprilskarp Level 1 (0 points)

Yes, i've tried restoring my phone from iTunes, reinstalling all apps etc.  Also, i'll be in the middle of doing something and the app will just close and return me to the main screen.  The only solutions i have found online say to reinstall those apps.  Well, it's happening while i'm texting, looking in the app store and when i have my "settings" opened.  this is really frustrating.  iOS 6 has turned my perfectly fine iphone into a glitchy mess.

What is the typical usage people are getting when they say they are "getting great battery use" after reinstalling ios6? I have been getting 5-6 hours of usage during the day. Is this good or should i try the reinstall? All i have to compare it to is the near 3 days of use that i got with my iphone 4!

Great suggestion iPhoNettie, I checked my iPhone 5 settings and mine were set to "Automatically Send" now I'll be able to compare my battery levels and see if there is a difference. Much gratitude too you.. ...

I don't know if it is strictly related to restores.. my iPhone 5 is the first iPhone i've had, so no restore for me.. I noticed that usage time bug as well the first day i was using the iPhone.. i've been playing around and rebooting it for days, and I definitely no longer see the usage/standby bug anymore..

but i still do have terrible battery.

I'm getting 3.5 hours usage, 12 hrs standby, before getting the 20% remaining warning.  This is pathetic.  My two year old iphone 4 easily went to 6 - 7 hrs before the warning.  I should be getting over eight hours with the new phone.

By the way, really good to hear that the apple engineers are aware and working on the problem.

I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I just got my iPhone 5 a couple of days ago, and initially the battery was draining ridiculously fast. In 3 hours with some normal use (one time finding directions, multiple texts, checking ESPN, browsing safari, checking email, listening to music), the battery dropped to 35%. After reading through this thread, I decided to try 2 things:

    1. Disabling iCloud sync with safari

    2. Disabling all facebook notifications.

As of now, I charged my phone to full 8 hours ago, have used it for 4 hours, and I'm at 63% battery remaining. HUGE improvement.

I'll wait for 6.1, but my phone is working just fine right now. Oh, and yes, it is restored from a backup of an iphone 4.

Good luck to everyone, I hope you get it sorted out!

This IS An iOS Problem Guys.. Technacally The Battery in i5 Is WAAAAY Better Than The Rest...

  • danpatriley Level 1 (0 points)

So I followed these tips and didnt sync to icloud just to see if this might be the problem and so far this morning after 44 mins of usage (browsing on chrome) it is down to 88%

Is this reasonable? Works out at 5 hours of browsing (I'm in UK ON 02 network)

  • danpatriley Level 1 (0 points)

From 88% and hour and a half ago - it's now 77% after 30 mins of listening to music and updating contacts from icloud - nothing else!!

The music listening itself reduced it by 6% which is ridiculous IMO. Even my crappy 3gs battery which was totally dreadful performs better than that on the music.

  • atlantis79 Level 1 (0 points)

Yeap exactly my experience, lost 20% overnight doing nothing... Lost 10% on my 15 minutes bike ride to work just listening to music, was another 20% down in the first hour at work.

I have RMAd mine, problem is that I have to wait till the end of the month to get another one as they have a 3-4 week lead....

Not impressed, my 3G and 4 were fantastic. The 5 so far has not made the same impression. Great device dreadful battery life, if it is iOS 6 then someone should come out from Apple and say and that a fix might be forthcoming otherwise the device is near unuseable if you are not glued to a plug!

  • atlantis79 Level 1 (0 points)

I need to try this I have a 4 with iOS6 but no sim in it, I have ordered a sim convertor and try it on my 4 see what battery life I get out of iOS6 with it. Under iOS5 my 26 month old 4 would drain under 4-5 hours constant use, the iPhone 5 manages around 2 - 2 1/2.

using my iphone 5 since 21.9.

had battery issues at first, set as new phone and then charged from 0%-100%.

since then, no issues. 1 day 16h's of standby and 9,30h's usage time before the battery is death.

    think its good now

    Hi Jody85,

When you set up the phone as new phone, did you lose all the contacts ot did you restoe it from back up? If you restored it then is it not the same as restoring the iPhone 4 or previous versions?

Could you or someone please briefely list the steps that you followed to resolve the battery life issue?

    Many Thanks in advance.
