Have just purchased my first imac. I have a 2nd generation ipod that now is not recognized in itunes. It still works with my old pc, which is at the end of its life. I am not very good with technical details so if anyone out there can help please could they tell me in idiot terms! My daughter just thinks that the ipod is too old (a little like me)!!!

The Nano should still work with your new Mac. What happens when you plug it in? what shows up on the iPod's display in iTunes?
WIth the iPod still connected to the Mac, try and reset it.
Does the iPod still appear in the Finder?

When i plug the ipod in nothing happens. Nothing shows up on the mac at all. Its just as though nothing has been plugged in!
If i reset the ipod and that doesnt work will i lose all my music.
You will not. A reset is the equivalent of rebooting your PC.
Have you tried plugging it into a different USB port and/or using a different USB sync cable?

I have tried using another cable and plugging it in to another USB port but no luck. Have even plugged it back into old pc and it is no longer recognised on that either. Think I may just have to abandon it and listen to music on my iPhone!
I liked using the iPod as it fits into my pocket easier.
Have also tried resetting it but no luck.
