iPhone 4 iOS6 doesn't remember WiFi

I just bought myself an iPhone 5, preloaded with iOS 6. I am having a very similar problem. I can connect to my local home Wi-Fi network by typing in my password and it stays connected. But, if I turn off the phone, or leave my home and return, it does not automatically reconnect to the Wi-Fi, but rather stays on 3G. I can easily reconnect to the Wi-Fi by retyping in my password, but it will not remember the password. When I click on the blue arrow I do not get the "Forget this Network" option. My wife is using a 3GS running iOS 5 and she has no issues at all. I would really like to get this fixed. Have already tried resetting network settings, turning phone/router on and off, and clearing all my Safari history/data/cookies, but still no joy.

I just managed to figure out the problem here. What you have to do is manually add the network by selecting "Other..." and filling in the information instead of selecting the item from the list of networks.

After trying many alternatives on the iPhone 5, selecting "Other" from the list of networks was the only option that worked. Thanks Ryulong!

Go to Settings then General then Restrictions and turn this on.

This solved my problem.

Had to enter "other." My wife and I both got new iPhones. Hers doesn't make her do this, mine does. Pretty sure something's not right with mine... we'll see.

I had 5 months old Iphone4S and I had same issue, it was not remembering my networks. I just went to apple store today and they replaced my phone with brand new 4S. I got home and to my frustration the new phone did exactly same thing while all my other devices including other Iphones, Ipods were working fine, but my phone old and new did not remember the passwords.

So I finally did google search and found your response. You really solved my problem. I could have saved myself a trip to apple store if I had done this search earlier in the day.

I am having the same problem, iphone 5 won't remember home wifi, even though it seems to be working fine at work. It also drops home wifi radomly, apple support so far seems clueless! When I get home, I will try to select other and see if that helps, I have my hopes up !!

I'm dealing with a similar problem, when I come home from work (wifi there) all too often my 4 will see my home wifi but won't use it. It will claim to be connected, but my net necessary ap's won't run or run correctly (from time to time during the phenomina I get sporadic & incomplete data). The ap's will sit and time out while there is no "busy" icon next to the wifi icon. The only temporary fix is that I restart my phone, then its ok until go to work again. I tried the Reset Network Settings and entered all the wifi info in again, and like powering down it was a temp fix.

Didn't do this under OS5.

Still waiting from something from Apple Support.

Did you try adding your home network manually using "other" option? It worked for me and few others on this forum. I am fine for the last few days ever since trying that method. Never worked before in months.

I turned off wifi, turned on, selected other network, input required info.

it connected fine, then i turned off wifi. Turned wifi back on, and for the first time ever it reconnected without me having to put in the passphrase. Awesome, thanks for your help.
