Last fall I obtained a MacBook Pro for the purpose of importing movies from my Panasonic model PV-GS300 digital video camcorder. It appears that my camcorder is not supported. You will need a Firewire Cable that is 9 pin to 4 pin, like these.
The camera ust be plugged into power (not batteries only).

I still haven't been able to confirm the camcorder is supported, but now that you are confirming it is supported, I will try more things to transfer my mini DV cassette tapes to the MacBook. I had already purchased and connected the Firewire Cable and had the camcorder plugged into power - so I already took those steps. The iMovies software is not recognizing the connection: when I go to import from camera, it opens the Face Time camera on the laptop - but there must be some other thing I haven't figured out yet. Since it is supported, I just have to keep trying.
