OS 10.8.2 behavior

I have a MacPro 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB of Ram. Since upgrading to OS 10.8.2 I have two problems. First, I am using a Logitech Performance Mouse MX. Each time I boot theMacPro, the mouse seems to work during the start-up. But once the computer is up and running, the mouse frezzes. If I unplug/replug the USB dongle, the mouse works fine. Why do I need to do this with each restart? I have tried a number of things, including using Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions.

Which leads to the second problem- each time I do a Repair Permissions, it seems to repair quite a few things. Once done, when I go to print from one of my printers, I get a message that the Permissions are wrong and an option to correct them. If Disk Utility just repaired the permissions, why are they wrong and need repairing?

Interesting. We are using different hardware, but I have a Logitech wireless mouse from 2007 that still works perfectly with each OS X release. I never installed the Logitech software. Ever.

If you did install their software, try updating to this version of their control center software for your MX. It shows 10.8 compatiblity. If problems persist, remove their software, that may also have installed USB kernel extensions.

On your printer permissions issue, did you directly install the manufacturer's printer drivers or did you choose from those available from within Mountain Lion? If it is the former case, Disk Utility may find that the permissions differ from what it expects in the system bundled drivers, and wants to make them match the latter.

For years, I used only Kensington mice because of the software - control anything for any program, including left and right chording, right click double-click, even a selection of using the wheel button to bring up the old shut-down/restart option (for those who remember ADP connected keyboards and their superb power key options), simple shut down or quit any active program. MouseWorks will not work on the newer books even though your OS supports it nor will it work with 10.7 or 10.8. Ok for 10.6 on the Mini.

SteerMouse < http://www.plentycom.jp/en/steermouse/ > allows for everything but chording and for the Pro Book I finally settled on Logitech M525 remote RF mouse. Really offers excellent control through SteerMouse. SteerMouse does not support MagicMouse or MagicTrackpad.
